ANNUAL HALLOWEEN FESTIVITY On October 31, 1947 the Bellevue Public School staged its annual gala when spooks and witches leave their places of abode. and come forth to enjoy festive celebrations in the halls and the auditorium of the Bellevue school building. This seasonal activity is always entered into whole-heartily by the young and the old alike in this community and the surrounding communities. Throughout the corridors of the high school building were booths and places of entertainment which certainly appealed to everyone. Fun. and plenty of fun. was enjoyed as the various classes had spent much time in so planning their bootlm to appeal to the crowd in every respect The following booths were planned and conducted by the following grades: the first six grades in grade school sponsored a coxmtry store. a foot- ball contest, a one hundred pound sack of feed contest, a door chime contest, and wallpaper contest. the seventh. and eighth grades had booths concerning the following: darts at ballons. a cake, the horror house. and ringing a goose's neck: the freshman class gave away a set of dishes, had popcorn, fishpond, dollrack, and a goal pitching contest, and they also had a cake walk: the sophomore class sold cake, pie, sand- wiches and ice cream. and they also had a novelty booth: the junior class had a picture show, plastic bubbles, candy and pop , darts for candy. and also gave away a radio: the senior class had a blanket stand, a fruit basket stand. and a hamburger stand with also pie, cake. and coffee. For the culmination of this big celebration.a coronation of a Queen was held on a beautifully decorated stage in the auditorium after the booths were closed. Each grade or group of grades mentioned above had a Duke and a Duchess competing for King and Queen. And of course, the grade making the most money during the Halloween Carnival had its Duke and Duchess as King and Queen of the whole affair. P. T. A.. an active organization of the school. also had a bingo table, and a novelty booth. As of course it would be mderstood, that the P. T. A. funds were not counted in relation to the Queen's Contest. This club used its proceeds for the betterment of the entire school in various ways. Therefore, the senior candidate, Mzurine Wetsel was crowned Queen with the King, L. D. Barnett, declaring her as such. All the other Dukes and Duchesses were the Queen's attendants. The following enjoyable program was presented in honor of Queen Maurine Wetsel who made a lovely Queen. Introduction Song - Kay O'Neil, Betty Taylor, Mary Tucker, Mary Johnson, Darlene Gill, and Geneva Nk:Gee. Radio Announcement of the Queen and Her Attendants - Billy Sweazea. Processional - Mrs. Rex Davis with Poppy Bell and Flo Reba Dean as Heralds announcing all attendants who were: Jane Gill and George Blackman Velma Sinnons and Donald Hay Cook Pearl Harris and Wayne Barnett Doris Ann Sullenger and Charles Nayo Ann Davis and Nelson McCord Crown Bearer - Wayne Dean Train Bearers - Jean Webb and Nnry Jameson Tap Dance - Nhry Beth Frerking Song - Put on Your Old Gray Bonnet Yvonne Clark, Darlene Gill, Peggy Johnson, Margie Heaves, Betty Wetsel, Jane Knight. Tap Dance - Karen Terry Accordion Solo - Ann Davis Vocal Music - Doris Ann Sullenger Tap Dance - Patricia Frerking Recessional - Mrs. Hex Davis This was truly a lovely coronation, and each one departed for his respective home with a feeling of gratitude for each and every one who had helped the school in any way on this October 31, 1947. And there was also a feeling of satisfaction in knowing that again the Bellevue Public School had passed another annual celebration in a successful way which is certainly a credit to any school.
