Mr Joseph Ayers uses the map to illustrate colonization of America lecture period Vacation is over and on their desks is a history book The students open it oppre hensively and examine it curiously To some it seems that between the two covers there is an insurmountable amount of pages filled with boring facts But soon the words on these pages become vrvrdly alive Suddenly the pupils find that history has a vital meaning They develop an understanding of mankind from a simple society to a complex civilization today People profit by avoiding mistakes of the past and taking advantage of the successes in the present History helps them to understand the people of all ages World history stresses the study of ancient Greece and Rome the French Revolution advances in European civilization and international relations The theme of American history is the hope the ideal the suffering and the achievement of Americans throughout the years. Students learn of the colonists and their desire for religious and political rights. Through this course they develop an understand- ing and respect for our democratic government. They study the foreign policy of the United States and its place as a leader in the world today. They become inspired with the realization of what it means to be an American citizen today.
