On September 3, l957, over 550 students walked under the arches of Bellevue High School to begin another full year of hard study. During the course of the year, many new acquaintances were made. With the participation of every student, who in some small way helps to mold the character of the school, Bellevue High School has attained the reputation of having one of the outstanding student bodies in Ohio. This attainment has been acquired through scholarship, leader- ship, character, and service on the part of students, teachers, admin- istration, and board of education. Since this year's COMET is dedicated to the students of Bellevue High School, it is the sincere hope that everyone will continue to maintain this standard and strive ahead for higher goals. Beware, this could happen to you, for indubitably every senior class that comes along sooner or later catches this disease. The Class of '58 has suffered from this rare disease, and some of the contributing factors to the many cases were the three class parties, the three class assemblies, and the class plays, Belles on Their Toes and Girl Crazy. The two proms, Paradise of the Deep and Welekahoa, also added to the senior-itis bug. Though extra-curricular activities were definite factors, the 16 required courses, and the many more absorbed by some, made scholastic achievement the maior factor. But possibly the most outstanding events contributing to the seniors' cure were Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises. Here the entire class assembled as a unit for the last time, presented its honored scholars, heard parting words of advice, and received its certificates of graduation. Senior-itis was finally cured for the Class of '58 two nights after graduation when members were officially welcomed into the Alumni Association. Senior Class officers absorbing last bits of knowledge in the school library are President Gary D. Norman, Vice-President Larry Frost, Secretary Janice Ayers, and Treasurer Gail Zeigler. Written to a popular tune, the song re- flects their school years and their many experiences: We are the class of fifty-eight: We're marching on to meet our goals, which we have set so true, And with God's help we'll meet those goals, For we've been trained to strive ahead and see our whole life through. We know that here, sometime, somehow, We'll meet again in these same halls whene'er we rendezvous. So, Bellevue Higie, until we meet again, Our class would like to say good-bye. Farewell to you, dear Bellevue High. Our memories of you we'll treasure as the years go by. We've learned that knowledge is a power, And for the learning we've received, we thank our teachers true. Four years we spent in class with you, Those years flew by, and now it's time for us good-bye. O, Bellevue High, we bid farewell to you, As now we sing our fond adieu. Scholarship . Publications . Musical Groups . . Organization is defined as any unified consolidated group of elements, especially, a body of persons organized for some specific purpose, as a club, union or society. Through organizations the students learn the characteristics of leadership and service. By participating in the activities of the organ- izations, the students learn to make friends and develop new interests. With this in mind BHS has developed a sphere of organizations open to every student in the school. By merely voicing the hope of being in the group or club, the student may be accepted after meeting the necessary requirements which are usually not too difficult. After ioining the organization, the student is expected to carry out his duties conscientiously. Organiza- tions are not all work, for special activities are scheduled throughout the year that provide students with work, leadership, and fun. Basketball . . . Track . . . Tennis . . Intramurals . . Participation is the main objective of the BHS sports program. Through it, any boy has a chance to take a part in some athletic endeavor. Every boy who yearns to be a gridiron star has a chance to de- velop his ability, for no one is cut from the squad because he lacks talent. If basketball is to his liking, he may try out for the varsity, reserve, or freshman team. Track and tennis squads are also selected by competitive tryouts. Even if a boy does not have great enough talent for varsity teams, he has a chance to take part in the intramural program. Through it, the essentials of sportsmanship and fellowship-the important qual- ities of athletics-can be learned.
