The “Average Day” What is meant by the “average day”? Although we often complain about the humdrum routine of our daily lives, each day does present a unique set of experiences which we all interpret differently. But in order to simplify our daily lives, we conform to certain patterns and habits. Together, these comprise the “average day.” (1) Rooting through our lockers was a frustrating part of the daily scene. (2) Click ... a photographer captures an everyday mood. (3) During class changes, crowded sidewalks and halls were an annoying reality. (4) Our principal, Mr. Jerry Turner, took advantage of a pleasant day to relax with a few of West’s thirty-two hundred and some students. (5) Despite the doubled cost of local calls, from ten cents to twenty, we were still forced to use the pay phones. (6) The “L” Building was just one of seventeen on campus. (7) Getting outside between classes was a relief from the confines of the classroom. (8) Tests often plagued our everyday lives!

Where to Go ? During free time, wondering where to go presented several alternatives. Whether it was a certain table in the cafeteria or a cold bench in the stadium, we all found a favorite spot on campus. (1) We often spent idle time talking with friends. (2) In colder weather, we gathered in halls to wait for the bell. (3) The cafeteria was busy all hours of the day. (4) The senior triangle proved to be a good place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. (5) Parking lots attracted a strange combination — lovers and “gearheads.” (6) Through rain, snow, sleet, or hail, the stadium was always occupied. (7) We found the cafeteria to be more than just a place to eat. (8) Despite faculty efforts, the library was rarely the quiet place it was supposed to be. (9) Although we spent much of our free time with others, we also enjoyed a little solitude. 10 Where to Go?
