U V. Alueeo of Belleville Mennonite School History LEFT To RIGHT: Carolyn Hartzler, Sara Peachey, J. Lorne Peachey, Sally Sharp, Rebecca Yoder. These five graduates are the first to have received their entire elementary and secondary training at the Belleville Mennonite School, Here is a synopsis of their school life through the years with their classmates. 1945 A A new venture - the Christian Day School is started. Five timid, rosy-cheeked first- graders enter the little one-room schoolhouse, stare at bright yellow Alice and Jerry books, look at the big words Father, Mother, trees, and boats, and learn to say one and one make two. ' 1949 Fifth graders now. Many more have joined the original five. Another major step -- they move to the newly-erected building for the high school and some of the grades, There they open red geography books, read sentences like The temperature of the Arctic is not constant, and learn the new words, temperate, torrid region, latitude, and longi- rude. 1953 High school, its glitter, new way of doing things, and hard work, They wonderingly concentrate on red literature books, rub their eyes over x2 ax : nx, discover how to dissect a -frog, and learn about General Braddock's part in the development of Pennsylvania history. . 1956 The last year -- ready for another step into life's vocation. Vocabulario de espanol, Sleep no more, Macbeth doth murder sleep, and The law of diminishing returns make the seniors scratch their heads and gasp their sighs. They increase their vocabulary with cohesion, time utility, 'subordinating conjunctions, and HCOMMENCEMENTJ' Twelve yearsvare gone already -- oh, sosoon. Has B,M.S. accomplished its purpose in these twelve years? It will be up to these to show, by their lives, the educational and spiritual soundness of the school. Sponsored by C.
