5 Fo -.X 59 .Fd Q 1 C r xx ak I CLASS HISTORY The year of years has ended and with it the events that the class of '53 will hold dear, Before we take our place in society, let's take a backward look to the beginning of our class history. We made our start on a high school career with Robert Born as our seventh grade president. Barbara - BJ! Hollar succeeded to the presidency in the eighth grade. Our social events included roller skating parties, so- cial hours, and class picnics at Cass Benton Park and a trip to Belle Isle. We were first granted recognition by the sophomores who proceeded to initiate us in the ways of high school life. The year was full of new experiences which with the help of our president Shirley Vandecar, proved to be exciting and memorable. Our sophomore year brought us the delightful task of initiating the freshmen who were very lucky in escaping most of what we had indured, We sponsored our first dance Tulip Tramp1e which proved to be a big success. The rest of the year went smoothly under the guidence of our able president Russell McQuaid. With our new class rings on our fingers we concluded the year with a trip to Walled Lake, Jlmiors at last! With Dan Larsen presiding we began a year full of activities. First we selected our class colors and motto. Kelley Green and White and Onward and Upward but Never Backward was our choice. Our memorable J-Hop Frosty Frolic came up in December. March 14 found us with our Gay Nineties dance. Curtain Going Upl This was heard on May 1 as we proudly presented our class play That Crazy Smith Family. The Junior-Senior Banquet and a trip to Bob-Lo ended a very exciting year. It was hard to believe that theyear of years had finally arrived. We were seniors. Dan Larsen was re-electedpresident, and the other senior officers were Bendetta Cole vice- president, Barbara Hollar secretary, and Marlene Birk treasurer. Senior pictures were first on the list. The senior play Green Val1ey was upon us before to be a success beyond all anticipation. We presented Sweetheart Swirl on February 14. With the train whistle blowing we boarded the train for a breathtaking six-day trip to New York and Washington. The senior Prom held in our cafeteria still lingers in our memories. The last few weeks of our school career brought us Class Night, Honor Assembly, and g E Commencement. The sadness and joy that was yesterday has pastg the adventure of tomorrow is at hand. f?4...., ,77'bu.lZvg,
