AD 66, All the worldis a stage, And all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. At first the infant, Mewling in the nursels arms. And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel And shining morning face, creeping like a snail Unwillingly to school. And then the lover, Sighing like a furnace, with a woful ballad. Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pardg And then the justice, With eyes severe and beard of formal cut, Full of wise saws and modern instances, And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts Into the lean and slipperyd pantaloon, VVith spectacles on nose and his big manly voice Turning again toward childish treble, pipes And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all, That endsxthis strange eventful history, Is second childishness, and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything Shakespeare As You Like It Act II, Sc. 7 Belleville Senior High- School Belleville, New jersey '6Ar1d what's a life? - a weary pilgrimage, W h0se gleory in one day doth ,Hl l the Stagef, j ' ' e Francis Queries 2 Table of Contents Introduction .........,...... .... 1 Sports .... . . . 16 Activities ............... . . 28 Administration and Faculty . . . . . 48 Underclassmen . . . . . 72 Seniors ....... .... 8 6 Advertisements . . . . . . 147 ii A ' , i-: ,q f-gvf f 'H 5191 ml r Q , 5 ' 7 A -2 1 x N 5. Mx When your wedding is over and you're back down to earth, six months later or 50 years hence, the wedding album crammed full of sparkling, bright pho- tographs will carry you back to those exquisite moments again and again. The wedding photographs are a magic lantern, precious and true-to-life. They let you see yourself and your husband as others saw you on the most impor- tant day of your life. But how can you make certain that you have only beautiful photographs to remind you of the most important day of your life? With the help of The Professional Photographers of America, the oldest and largest asso- ciation of professional photographers in the world, here are tips and sug- gestions to save you trouble and money, and help you be sure your wedding album is a treasure to cherish. First of all, go to a professional. He'll know how to conduct himself at the sacred wedding ceremony while an amateur won't. Wedding photography is a demanding job, for good wedding pictures capture the fun and excitement from start to finish. Good photographers also take complete knowledge of the rules and regulations of the house of worship where the wedding is held. This is so important that there's a new Code of Ethics for Wedding Pho- tography established by the PP of A for its members. Photographers who subscribe to it promise that they will: ID contact the clergyman to learn the rules, customs and regulations af- fecting photographs in the churchg 121 obey the rules of the church, Q31 will work in a dignified, unob- trusive manner while making the wed- ding pictures, Ml wonlt litter the church with trash. The rules sound simple enough, but you'd be surprised at the amateur pho- tographers who donit know enough to follow them. Popping flash bulbs, whir- ring motion picture cameras and even actual interference with the ceremony are all signs of the amateur to beware of. You'll probably want to have a for- mal bridal portrait made before the wedding. Direct color, modern light- ing and more casual, life-like poses will give you a chance to look like a high fashion model. Arrange for your sitting appoint- ment as early as possible before the wedding, usually when the gown is ready. fThis gives you enough time to get the formal portrait to your news- papers., Get to bed early the night be- fore the sitting, for fatigue tightens the muscles around the mouth and eyes. The hair style should complement the wedding dress and the headpiece. Ask your hairdresser to style your hair to fit the headpiece and veil, and ask him not to do anything too extreme. Be- fore the portrait is made, comb hair ends and control them with a light spray. Makeup is very important. A clear glowing, natural complexion is every- body's dream, but natural perfection is hard to come by. Anyway, you must use makeup on the eyes and mouth for a good photograph. Use a shade of foundation on your face that matches your skin tone. The new, liquid base makeups work best. Because good facial highlights are es- sential to a fine photograph, pancake and face powder should be avoided. If you're WHAT EVERY BRIDE SHOULDKNOWI ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY A Courtesy of Kondreck Photographers For Future Brides tan or have a dark complexion, cover any uneveness in flesh tones to match exactly. Be sure to- blend all makeup in the areas under the chin and down the neck and chest areas. Eyes and lips should be accentuated. On the eyes, touch the eyebrows light- ly with eyebrow pencil. Upper lashes should be curled and further empha- sized with a light application of black mascara on upper and lower lashes. Eyeliner will further display your eyes and give them a brighter, more alive appearance. Eye shadow depends upon how deeply set your eyes are. The average bride will want to use a brown- toned eye shadow between the lash and brow. but not enough to create a sinister effect. A slightly darker lipstick tone on the outline of your lips will emphasize your expression. The contemporary, opales- cent lip colors are excellent for pho- tography, for they create a feeling of feminine grace. Remember to bring your wedding shoes, gloves and necklace to the studio. Because most of the modern and con- temporary wedding gowns show the shoe tip in the portrait, make sure that the shoe edge matches the color of the shoe-top. The pictures made before, during and after the ceremony are called the wedding candids. They're the ones that will I-ill your album. Proper planning is important, so sit down with the photographer several days before the wedding to discuss what pictures you want to have taken. Heill have suggestions to add to your ideas, and you'll have no trouble in finding enough different poses to reflect how your wedding really was. Most members of the clergy now ap- preciate how important wedding photo- graphs are and gladly cooperate with photographers-especially if they sub- scribe to the Code of Ethics for Wed- ding Photography. The clergyman's concern is that nothing happens to take away from the dignity of the ceremony. Keep in mind that customs and what's considered right and wrong in wedding photography vary across the United States. For example, some churches today don't frown on two or three flash photographs during the proces- sional and recessional parts of the ser- vice, while others consider any flash photographs to be in very bad taste. However, churches which do not per- mit Hash photographs often allow time exposures to be made, usually from the back of the church or from the side entrance to the altar. No matter where the wedding is held, the pho- tographer should not go down the aisle for a picture. Whether to go back to the altar for additional photographs after the ser- vice is completed depends on what you want and how the clergyman feels about it. This procedure is much more common with Protestant weddings than with Catholic or Jewish ones. Your friends and relatives should not bring their own cameras to the ceremony. The professional photogra- pher and his camera will be unnoticed, if not invisible, during the ceremony because be knows his place is not to interfere with the service. Guests with cameras do interfere, however, so prevent this possible source of trouble before it begins. The costs involved with wedding photography vary with many things: location, number of poses and prints, and black and white photographs or color, to name a few. Inform yourself fully about costs by asking the photog- rapher for an estimate or a price list before you hire him. If you've recent- ly moved from one part of the country to another, don't be surprised if the prices are different. Costs tend to be slightly higher on the East Coast than in other parts of the United States. They're also higher in or near major cities. You should not, of course, ever se- lect a photographer on the basis of price alone. It doesn't make sense to let the false status of a high-priced photographer influence you if you like another, less expensive photographer's work better. But do be wary of bar- gain basementi' photographers who promise cut rates. The canny English essayist, John Ruskin, had a good thought about this when he said: There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey. One final suggestion-be sure to have your wedding photographs mount- ed in a good sturdy album. They're a family treasure that you'll come back to again and again for the rest of your life.
