Mr. Morlock’s a grouchy old miser, who always gripes about his aches and pains, fights with everyone, and won’t let his daughter, Mary, become engaged to Joe Lanconi be- cause Joe’s papa is poor. A feud starts between the fathers, but it appears over when Luigi’s heart gives out. However, Luigi gets permission to come back and haunt Mr. Morlock until he okays the wedding. All the family think Mr. Mor- lock’s lost his few remaining marbles when they see him out there talking to himself. (“Luigi’s visible only to Morlock and the audience, of course.”) So in his despair, he “acci- dentally” takes too many sleeping pills and kicks the bucket. But this doen’t end it all, because Mr. Morlock and Luigi say they won’t rest in peace until matters are settled to both of their satisfactions. However, Lucifer from “down-below” drops in to take Mr. Morlock to the lower regions. And to top it all off, life goes on in the Morlock home as if nothing’s happened. No one misses him. Now Morlock realizes what a heel he’s been and wishes for another chance. If only-Then he awakens from his dream. He didn’t die and neither did Luigi. So a very reformed Mr. Morlock approves the wedding, and peace finally reigns at the Morlock’s.
