A graduate of Mexico Academy and Central School, Ms. Keck graduated from the Albany State Teachers College, Albany, New York in 1942, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Busi- ness. Ms. Keck has taught at the Northville Central School, and at the Beaver River Central School, before being a secre- tary in the Research Center of the J. P. Lewis Company, Beaver Falls. Before coming to Belleville to teach, Ms. Keck taught at Lowville Academy and Central School, and at Mannsville Manor Central School. Our class will always remember her jovial spirit and helpfulness to everyone. 7 IN MEMORIAM Christina Presley (1963-1972) Christina was in second grade at Belleville Central School, where she was an enthusiastic and uncomplaining student. She was an avid Brownie in Girl Scouts, and a member of the Woodville Congregational Church Sunday School. At home, Christina enjoyed collecting dolls and jewelry, and making pot holders. In spite of her illness, Christina kept a cheer- ful, smiling outlook, and she is certainly missed by her classmates and all who knew her. William Scruggs (1908-1972) Union Academy and Belleville Central School was fortunate to have had Mr. Wil- liam Scruggs as its speech therapist. Mr. Scruggs graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and speech from Youngstown University, Youngstown, Ohio. He received his Master’s degree in speech therapy from New York University, and was a candidate for a Doctorate de- gree, having almost completed advance studies in speech. Mr. Scruggs taught at Belleville for ten years, working with students of all ages. He was dedicated to his work, and his gentle, quiet manner will be remembered always. Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) Thirty-third President of the United States from 1945 to 1953. Lyndon B. Johnson (1908-1973) Thirty-sixth President of the United States from 1963 to 1969. My School Mike Herron Eighth Grade Tho many have passed through your doors With many a memory of you, I hope to leave a memory of me With those who remain. By doing my best while I am here. But no matter what I do or how hard I try. It will be difficult to build a memory like yours. I’ll always have fond memories Of the hours spent at Belleville, My school. mkmll «V.-: 4 ’ --«V- SENIORS E. Ackley, S. Reynolds, 0. Fillhart, J. MacDuffic, D. Price, E. Eastman, M. Far man, S. COLORS CHARTREUSE TANGERINE MOTTO DON’T LOOK BACK WITH ANGER— DON’T LOOK AHEAD WITH FEAR—LOOK AROUND WITH A WARENESS 10 FLOWER TIGER LILY We entered our Freshman year 59 strong, but the teach- ers felt we should be separated. Our first encounter of segre- gation occured when the girls ate lunch at 12:42 and the boys at 12. Study halls weren’t mixed, so the guys don’t re- member about the oranges and pocketbooks in the library with Mr. Moot. But we did get together for our first car wash and rec- ord hop and they were both very successful. In sports, instead of being managers, our guys got a taste of the real thing and have proven to be fine athletes; while the girls became bench warmers. In our sophomore year, however, many of the girls became cheerleaders. We sponsored another record hop which proved to be more successful than the first. Peg was elected to the Student Council as secretary and Sue Parsons as Vice President. When we got back to school for our Junior year, we ordered our rings and they came just before Christmas. We held some more dances and started selling candy at Basket- ball games. We celebrated the coming of our Senior year with a party at Veley’s cottage in Jefferson Park. Swinging into our Senior year we had to order pic- tures, caps and gowns, and graduation invitations. We had our Senior Play “Rest Assured.” We prepared to attend college by taking all the neces- sary tests, ACT’s and College Boards, and then sent in our applications. We definitely weren’t segregated this year, as at lunch we put two tables together and had a really good time. We had grown together in our last four years of school and are now a close knit “family”. We hope you see us at Canton, Oswego, Ithaca, Albany,Geneseo, Watertown. Pots- dam, Cortland, and Toni’s. We entered Belleville High School 59 strong; we leave as a united one! A feud starts between the fathers, but it appears over when Luigi’s heart gives out. However, Luigi gets permission to come back and haunt Mr. Morlock until he okays the wedding. All the family think Mr. Mor- lock’s lost his few remaining marbles when they see him out there talking to himself. (“Luigi’s visible only to Morlock and the audience, of course.”) So in his despair, he “acci- dentally” takes too many sleeping pills and kicks the bucket. But this doen’t end it all, because Mr. Morlock and Luigi say they won’t rest in peace until matters are settled to both of their satisfactions. However, Lucifer from “down-below” drops in to take Mr. Morlock to the lower regions. And to top it all off, life goes on in the Morlock home as if nothing’s happened. No one misses him. Now Morlock realizes what a heel he’s been and wishes for another chance. If only-Then he awakens from his dream. He didn’t die and neither did Luigi. So a very reformed Mr. Morlock approves the wedding, and peace finally reigns at the Morlock’s. There it stands at the edge of the park with its own soul. To some the bell doesn’t ring at all; it sings. Some love the Tower; to others, something to be ignored. To some it has brought children home. In the light of dawn over the horizon. You see the Tower with the shadow of empty limbs. Like a person gazing on. UNDERCLASSMEN C p D. White. S. Hark. M. Her bricks were laid with loving hands. There were no sirens, parades, or marching bands. The people pass through other schools. Not getting involved one way or another. But people here, at Belleville, They are involved, teaching each other. ACTIVITIES J. Greene, L Wattles HONOR SOCIETY G. Lunman, B. Ormsby, C. Langworthy, S. Parsons (vice-pres.), V. Perry (sec.), T. White TOWER STAFF White Horse Larry Guiterrez Tenth Grade Upon horses of white With scars too deep to be hidden, A new breed of people has been born. Destined to relieve the old ones Of their tattered bonds. Some will hear the last of the weary cries, Echoing in the canyon. And some will do nothing but exist and die. But from all these. One, just one, may also show the scars. Deep and long, with eyes that are darkened and heavy; With hands, cracked and peeled; With feet, blistered and sore. And, like the others, with dreams yet to fulfill. But this one will be the one To take the fast-falling torch of man And raise it far above his head- To look onward to his unknown fate. 64 It’s done! %
