FRIENDSHIP Pure disinterested friendship is a bright flame, emitting none of the smoke of selfishness. Its origin is divine and its results enrapture the soul. However, the world has ever been flooded with base counterfeits, many so thickly coated with the apparently pure metal that nothing but time can detect the base interior and the ulterior de- signs of bogus friends. Deception is a fault of many men and is practised throughout their entire lives. Friendship is a flower that blooms in all seasons. Wherever it is watered with the dews of kindness and affection, there you may be sure to find it in its purity. Its eternal and universal fragrance dispels every thought of envy, and purifies the mind with a priceless contentment. True friendship can only be found to bloom in the soil of a noble and self sacrificing heart, there it has a perennial summer, a never-ending season of joy to its happy possessor. Dear Seniors: If you can treasure friendships and store away happy mem- ories of them against the times of troubleg If you can preserve a keen sense of humor as a buffer against life's irritationsg If you can do small things graciously, If you can adjust yourself uncomplainingly to new sit- uations, even if not of your own choice, If you can judge kindly, making all due allowance for different viewpoints and training, If you'can cultivate a sensitivity to the feelings of others, that you will never unwittingly hurt them, If you can love all with whom you come in contact as deeply as you can, feeling that by so doing you may be able to counteract some of the hate in the world, and lastly, feeling that you have given only the talent of being kind, Then, my children, you will be able to go out into the big wide world and lead a successful life.
