Best Wishes I 4 r V f-Hx, ,--. -K -. , PRIMA our? ,efemfcfefx L DEVELOPMENT OF MENTAL ENERGY A KEY TO SUCCESS The process of developing mental energy is almost en- tirely unknown to the average individual. He sees how nature operates in producing a field of wheat corn or cottaa or a grove of oranges. But it never occurs to him that the brain operates in much the same way in creating ideas. He knows that a field must be cultivated and prepared for any crop. He knows that seed must be planted and the ground fertilized in order to replace the minerals removed from it in gre ing 1t' a previous crop. He does not realize that the brain nust be cultivated and ideas planted in it in order to produce a mental crop. The undeveloped brain is like an uncultivated field. It is as unproductive as a desert. It remains that way until it is cultivated and ideas properly planted. What knowledge you have at this moment, and how you think, are THE EXACT RESULTS OF THE EDUCATION you have acpuired. Look back over your education so far. .Get a mental picture of it Then contrast your ability today with your ability after you have completed some special course in education. and then after you have had ten years of experience in buslness. You will see a great difference. To see these pictures clearly you must use your imagination. The mind must be submitted to an educative process before it can complete its development. Man's great superiority rests upon his ability to profit by the successful experiences of successful people. Dora G. Thus, bringing us to the end of our High School Days. CLASS POEMS While you are reading this memory book, Take out a little time, To read about each Senior, In a little form of rhyme. Bobby Ziegelman, president of our class, He's awful smart, so you'll know he'll pass In basketball, he can't be beat, But while in school, he likes to eat. Leon Phillips, who likes to miss school, Now don't you think he obeys the rules When school is out, he'll work on a farm, So if he gets married, don't be alarmed. Well what do you know, its Bob DePew, He's also one of that Senior crew A race driver some-day, he wants to be, So out on the track, Bob you will see. Morris Williamson, of course, will marry some-day, From the looks of things, he's not far away And when he's married and all settled down, He'll find each Senior dropping around. Shirlie Dorsett, she's tall and neat, In picking a friend, she can't be beat She likes the balconys in the shows, That is when Bob takes a notion to go. Gloria McCammack, is everyones pal, We'll all admit, she's one swell gal We don't know what she plans to do, But whatever it is, she'll see her way through, Waneta Nichols, a sweet lass, She's the Sec. and Treas. of our class A great big wedding is coming her way, And she plans to make her home in Stilesville some day Margaret Hurst, is a very fine girl, She keeps all the Seniors in a whirl What ever profession she may choose, We know she'll never have the blues. And now Mrs. Hodge, we can't let her pass, She's really been swell, to the Senior Class In chosing a sponsor, she can't be beat, For working with her, has been a treat. i E V x l x I P PROPHECY Tlme, like a mighty river, flows on unceasingly until the tale of the years are told. Nothing is accomplished by looking backward, The things we wish to accomplish lie ahead. And although our peephole into the future is small, and our vision is dim, yet we delight to predict the futurity of ourselves, the Senior Class of 1949. Waneta, our small and lively lass, Will hold down a job with some class. She wishes always to be kind and true, And never intends to make us blue. She wants to be a homemaker some day. We wish her success in every way. And then there's Bob--better known as Chubby, Who won't have time to be a hubby, For the SOO Mile Speedway Race Is waiting for him to join the pace, Our hats off to him to be the winner, For we've heard from him as just a beginner, Margaret Ann, our carefree gal, Is to all a dear ole pal. A job in town she aims to hold down, Until some Romeo comes around, Then she will surely say UI don, And live in a cottage and never be blue. Morris already has his future in hand, For marriage to Juanita is what he has planned. We wish him happiness every day, . A And hope their lives will be perfect in every way. For with her ever at his side, He takes all things in his stride. , I Leon, our tall and handsome Romeo, Will land in places we do not know. He tells no one what he plans to do, But we know he'll win and see it through, For he is quiet and very steady, And will do the work, and always be ready. Shirlie is planning at Lilly's to work, And we know her work, she will not shirk, But we often wonder when the sun goes down, If she'l1 not get married and live in town, For Bob, you know, is a plumber by trade, So our guess is, she'll marry and make the grade Now Bobby our President, And star flayer of ball, Will be a great herdsman, And answer every call. In many a field, he could make a success As he gives his all, yea, always his best. As for myself, Gloria, a position I'll secure, Hoping always to be able to endure, The trials and hardships that may come my way, Knowing that these pass with the day. I like the rest, wish a home of my own, With loved ones about--and never alone. ... -,.,....-.-ov-.-.,..-.-.......-.--..a-:....-'..-,-....- . -...-...... - .-... ..... .. ........... - ...---.q-.,.,....---..... . I L I N i W V w r L ADVICE TO THE SENIORS OF 1949 Seniors, advice is given by many people but taken by few. You are approaching the close of your high 'school career. Each of you should have a goal toward which you' are striving. Your education should not stop with a high school diploma. You should strive to earn a diploma from a higher institution of learning. One who expects to be successful in life must be de- pendable, willing to help other people and be on the level with your neighbor. I would like to recommend the idea of pursuing your dreams with all the strength and will power you have: To take success if it comes in stride, and if it doesn't come take that also in the same stride. I want to congratulate youl on being ready to graduate from high school, and I wish you all the success and hap- piness possible in the future. - fb f'!7- . 1. -' 1 if M , I Q1 pijzfavtfzf ,,4?, A5yf5?fef4ffL4Q2ZL Success depends largely on choosing an occupation for life when young, setting a goal, and striving to reach that end. , X.m , x-X'? Cultivate the habit of persistence, which is the most important element of success, and hold steadfast to your purpose in spite of your failures. Do not expect too much at first, for achievement is not a swift race on an elevator. It is a hot, hard climb up a long steep hill. School yourself to disregard discouragement and ap- proval. Omit the ill humors of your disposition, and re- lieve your mind of the thought that you are being slighted or overlooked. Cultivate a cheerful countenance, since bat- tles may be lost by frowns, and successes won by the narrow margin of a smile. Do not interfere with others, not try to direct their lives. You'll have all you can do to make a success of your own. i 4 '! ff - . ' f'v ..-. Q71 FRIENDSHIP Pure disinterested friendship is a bright flame, emitting none of the smoke of selfishness. Its origin is divine and its results enrapture the soul. However, the world has ever been flooded with base counterfeits, many so thickly coated with the apparently pure metal that nothing but time can detect the base interior and the ulterior de- signs of bogus friends. Deception is a fault of many men and is practised throughout their entire lives. Friendship is a flower that blooms in all seasons. Wherever it is watered with the dews of kindness and affection, there you may be sure to find it in its purity. Its eternal and universal fragrance dispels every thought of envy, and purifies the mind with a priceless contentment. True friendship can only be found to bloom in the soil of a noble and self sacrificing heart, there it has a perennial summer, a never-ending season of joy to its happy possessor. No one can be happy without a friend. -R. Coates- fm,fgpf7fpQ, gZjpif7f22,?475QL4,f! Life is a gift of which the humblest person may boast, and it was given to us to bc used every dey. The best thing about life is that the more we use it in service for others, the more beautiful it becomes. In being of service to others, we make someone happy. In bringing happiness to others, we are happy. . ..-, Q - jj, p-dam Q9 I can think of no better advice than the following lesson taught in these wise old sayings.
