Reporter enior add After three exciting years as underclassmen we find ourselves cast as dignified seniors. We are proud of our ten shining examples of brains and brawn, seven of whom have partic- ipated in school athletics. Our bashful senior girls are enthusiastic about taking active part in all school activities including music , parties, fried chicken dinners for starving senior boys, and cheering at all ball games. Among our accomplishments this year are the edition of our school paper, the annual, the senior play and the election of four senior boys for class officers, and--graduating! We hope we have made as good an impres- sion on the school as the school has on us, and we will do our best to carry the ideals of B.P. H.S. out into the world with us. unior Cfazizi In the fall of 1947, our class of twenty-two ambitious freshmen entered the doors of Belle Plaine High. Being small in number, we were determined to show our fellow classmates that we could accomplish much in the activities in which we were to take part. We have been well represented in all of the organizations of our school. A large per cent of our boys and girls have shown their talent in band and vocal groups and also in the art of acting. Our boys have done their part to make the athletic teams the best possible and the girls have always been behind them, cheering them on whenever they became downhearted. Although we are now five members smaller than during our first year, we shall continue to uphold our school and work hard to bring honor to B.P.H.S. Sue Carter , . President Joy Spencer . . . Since the fall of 1947, the Belle Plaine High School Band has grown from an organi- zation of eighteen members to its present status of sixty-five. This number includes approximately twenty students from the grade school. In the spring of 1949, new suits made in the colors of chocolate and gold were purchased. These suits greatly enhanced the appearance of this worthwhile organization, During the year the band participated in such events as the Annual Belle Plaine Fall Fair, Old Settler's Picnic at Mulvane, Safety Parade at Wichita, Annual Fall Fair at Conway Springs, and Band Day at Wichita University. In addition to these outside activities, the band played at all home athletic events, presented a number of concerts, and took part in the League and District Music Festivals, Besides the enjoyment and self expression which one derives from participation in such an important organization, students are given school credit as well as music emblems bearing the school colors. With several lettermen returning from last year's team and a group of beginning trackmen, Coach Crouch began with hard practice at the start of the season to try to keep the Sumner County track title which was won the preceding year. The team also took part in the League Track Meet and in dual meets held with other schools and several of the boys entered in their various individual events in both the Anthony and K. U. Relays. Although no records were set by any of this year's trackmen, as had been done by Don Smith, the 1949 star, the boys showed up well during the season and were out to win for B.P.H.S. There was a riot of laughs at the High School Auditorium on April 12, 1950 when the Senior Class presented the hilarious three-act comedy farce, Maid to Order. It was one of those sparkling plays that speed along like a jet-propelled plane, through clouds of laughter all the way. Jimmy, the young husbandwho was fed up with the way his wife's English cousins kept staying in his house without paying board, set out to prove the couple were fakes. He had an old college friend impersonate a maid, hoping to get the goods on the unwelcome guests. There was quite a mix-up, as usual, when his wife mistook Come -on Kate, a gang- ster's moll, for the new maid and put her to work. Other twists to the plot added to the humor of the play and all put together, it provided an evening of excitement and merriment for all who saw Maid to Order.
