A” For the past thirty-one years Mr. Albrecht has enlightened B.P.H.S. classes with his propensity for gentle wit, his innate feeling for beauty, and especially for his charming philosophy of life. His insight into the problems and insecurities of our most troublesome years has inspired confidence in him as an excep- tional instructor and friend. Anyone who has ever been privileged enough to be taught by him will surely feel the impact of his wis- dom. Perhaps the crowning point of his career, in the eyes of his current students and the faculty are concerned, was his enlighten- ing speech at this, his last Prom. After giving us a verbal histoy of the beginning of our school, he proceeded to outline his own teaching career. As we were sorry to see the end of his speech so are we sorry to mark the end of his teaching career. We feel that his absence will leave a void difficult to bridge and impossible to ever fill. Mr. D. , a member of the Belle Plaine High School faculty for the past eight years, is a Gustavus Adolphus graduate and is teaching English. Many of his extra hours are spent directing the senior class plays, coaching the debate teams, the one act plays and declamation. Mr. Delgehausen has given much to our school in many ways and we sincerely hope he will continue to do so We hope that this dedication will in some way show the gratitude not only of the annual staff but of all the students who have known Mr. D. A crowd of excited spectators cheered as Joan Zellmer, Queen of 1963, crowned the new queen, Ginny Diers. The princesses of the royal family were Kathy Oelfke and Sharon Erickson. In the football game that evening, we edged the Le Sueur Giants in a one point victory. Dick Arthur of Mankato supplied the music for the Homecoming Dance. STANDING: D. Moriarty, J. Huber, C. Stier. SITTING: M. Redman, B. Witt, J. Schmidt, G. Diers, K. Oelfke. The class of '65, directed by Mr. Delgehausen, presented I Remember Mama, a play set in a working man's home in the turn of the century of San Francisco. Mama is the typical American mother of the time - the force that binds the family together. She holds her composure throughout numerous incidents that would make a lesser creature cringe. Even when the family finances are in dire straits, she manages to see the good in the gentleman boarder who swindled the family out of $100, but left them with a thirst for good literature. And when Katrin, the eldest, decides to gain fame and fortune as author, it is Mama who shoves the career over the brink. STUDENT COUNCIL’S SNOWBALL DANCE BACK ROW: R. Chewning, M. Meierbachtol, L. Zellman. FRONT ROW:G. Hayes, J. Steffen, A. Mori arty. On January the sixteenth, the third annual Student Council-sponsored Snow-ball Dance was held. This winter semi-formal dance had become an established tradition at BPHS, but this year a new facet was added. Homecoming queen Ginny Diers crowned the first winter royalty, Jane Steffen and Mike Meierbachtol. Queen Jane G King Mike THE COURT OF WINTER ROYALTY 11 L E JARD They're attacking! Anyone for seconds? It takes a tall ladder! 12 I’AMOUR Le Jardin D’Armour was the theme upon which the class of '66 based its Junior-Senior Prom. Although the event took place on May 1, many hours were spent previous to that date in planning decorations, and then in carrying out the plans. [The banquet, which consisted of a meal of turkey with all the trimmings, featured Mr. Albrecht as the guest speaker. Mr. Albrecht, who is retiring this year, delivered an Interesting talk that brought the students, faculty, and guests chronologically through the years of his teaching career at BPHS. The beginning of a grand march revealed the gym to the honored seniors for the first time. To the strains of Anchors Aweigh couples marched sedately through the flower bedecked Garden of Love. Later, many stopped to admire the bubbling fountain. As the enchanted eve drew to a close all were ready to admit that the 1965 Prom had been a success. Mr. John Bush coached three boys; Tom Stodola, Jim Albercht, and Russ Hart, to third place ribbons in the Conference. Russ Hart also held the longest winning streak in Belle Plaine History with six consecutive undefeated matches . We would rather fight than switch. Despite inexperience and lack of depth, the Belle Plaine cindermen burned up the track by setting numerous school records this year. Among the records are: the 60 yards in 7. 1 seconds set by Bill Mattfeld, discus thrown by Jim Leuwer, broad jump for 19' 11 1 2 set by Mike Murphy, and the shot put for 35' 9 set by Wayne Stier.
