The spirit of the 1958 Homecoming was inspired by the band, speakers, and cheerleaders. Immediately after the bonfire, the snake dance was led through the town by the cheerleaders and the senior class officers. The next day suspense reigned the school, waiting the coronation of the queen. The white carpet was unrolled, and Mary Ann Kruschke and David Murphy led the royal procession. They were followed by the respective class attendants. The freshman attendant, Janice Keck- ley, escorted by Mike McNaughton. The sophomore attendant, Marilyn Sass, escorted by Mark Halloran. The junior attendant, Lorayne Stier, escorted by Ted Klehr. Following the class attendants came the 1958 homecoming candidates for queen: Judy Bigaouette, Julie Engfer, and Carol Stier escorted by Jim Daly, John Wagener, and Garm Elder. A new practice was introduced this year, that of presenting former homecoming queens. Phyllis Anderson, Shirley Erickson, Geraldine Bigaouette, and Lynn Sincox returned for the royal occasion. Suspense was broken when Lynn Sincox, 1957 Queen, opened the envelope containing the name of the new queen—Judy Bigaouette. Judy reigned over the rest of the homecoming festivities. JUNIOR SENIOR PROM May 9, 1959 MANY HARDWORKING HOURS WERE SPENT DEVELOPING THE PROM THEME????? Need any help, Roger? What's so funny? 32 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS: President, Paul Till- quist, Ann Ramstead; Secretary. Carol Stier, Larry Hartmann; Vice-President. Julie Engfer, Glen Schultz; Treasurer, Ted Klehr, Phyllis Path. The weeks prior to the prom were very busy ones for the juniors. They spent many hours planning and developing their theme, Road to Happiness. With the help of the advisors and the co-operation of the entire junior class a prom was planned. The date of May 9 came all to soon for the juniors. The first activity for the biggest social event of the year was the banquet. After dinner was served Master of Ceremonies, Mike Flaherty entertained with a few jokes and proceeded to introduce a vocal duet, Carol and Janet Anderson. Following the duet Mr. Lindquist gave a very inspiring message to the seniors, Happiness, A Challenge. After Mr. Lindquist came a vocal sextet made up of Helen Stier, Lorayne Stier, Elaine Stier, Rachel Stradcutter, Janice Dahlke, and Gloria Sass. Junior-Senior Continuing with the program Mr. Kartak was introduced and reminded the seniors (jokingly of course) of their past misdeeds and confusion of earlier school years. After Mr. Kartaks's Reviews came senior class president, Paul Tillquist who read the Senior's Last Will and Testament. Many treasured items were left to the enjoyment of the juniors. With the conclusing of the Will, junior class president, Mike Flaherty read the Prophecy for the Class of 1959. PROM With the termination of the banquet the activi- ties moved to the gymnasium which was beautifully decorated to the theme of the Road to Happiness. The decorations, including a blue and silver false ceiling, a bridge, a memory walk, and rippling music of the Bud Lawrence orchestra all gave the gymnasium a festive mood for dancing. Surrounding the entire scene were individual tables for drinking punch. Each table was furnished with a candle for lighting. After a delightful evening of dancing, drinking punch, and all around fun....everyone headed to various places for something to eat. 33 JUNIOR CLASS PRESIDENT: Mike Flaherty, Marilyn Sass. Richard This year the band started practising for its many activities before the school term began. Many hours were spent in rehearsal for the halftime show at the Home- coming game. As the year progressed the band played at the annual Christmas concert and also participated in the district 13 festival. The climax of all the band's activities was the annual Spring Concert held on May 12, 1959. The band played many numbers including solos by John Wagener and Dean Willson (Tuba), Elayne Stier, (Tympani), and Paul Tillquist (Alto Saxophone). The finale to the program was a narration, Gettysburg Address narrated by James Daly. 37 SENIOR PERSONNEL Mark Albrecht Annette Fogarty Patti Mahoney Marilyn Sass Karen Anderly Carol Halquist Peggy Mahoney Maynard Schultz Loretta Anderly Robert Halquist Phyllis Malz Otto Schultz Carol Anderson Charlotte Hauer John Miller Carol Stier Judy Bigaouette Mary Ann Herder Lynette Miller Elayne Stier Carol Bergs Elaine Hafemann Pat Minton Helen Stier Joyce Brenke Gary Hormann Donna Mueller Lois Stier Del Mae Buesgns Bill Johnson Elaine Mueller Lorayne Stier Elaine Busch Karen Kamitz Roger Mueller Mabel Stier Ann Collins Bonnie King Sandra Mueller Merlin Stier Jim Daly Marilyn Klehr Sharon Murphy Rachel Stradcutter Janice Dahike Sana Rose Koepp Roger Newman Mary Lou Tiede Erma Dahn Orin Kruschke Colleen O'Brien Paul Tillquist Mary Dawley Carol Ann Latzke Mary Ann Otto Robert Walerius Bob Dickie Gary Lindquist Ann Ramstead Dean Wilson Carmen Elder Gary Lockrem Diane Riesgraf Sharon Wolpern Julie Engfer Sharon Lynch Elroy Riesgraf Mary Jean Young Alice Fahey Helen McCourtney Gloria Sass Jeanette Lockrem 38 CHORUS The chorus started rehearsing a few weeks after the school term began. The first big concert was held during the Christmas season with the program centered around a huge. Gothic style, stained glass window. After many months of practising came the choral contest which was held at the St. Peter High School. Following this contest came the biggest event in the year for the chorus, the annual spring concert. This was the first year that the chorus has presented an entire concert apart from the band. The chorus sang several numbers varying in tempo and mood. The special chorus sang three numbers, O Spirit Who From Jesus Came, When Love is Kind, and Wonderful Copenhagen. This fine choral group of seventy-two also entertained at the Graduation Excersises. When the graduating seniors look back upon their high school days, they will always remember the fun which they had in chorus. v ir DIRECTOR: Mrs. Elizabeth Albrecht 39 ocal and Instrumental Winners LEFT TO RIGHT: Paul Tillquist, Bill Johnson.
