O Division is divided into four gangs: RD,s, ET's, RlVI7s and SlVI's. The RD,s can usually be found in the dark cave known as CIC, squinting into the radar scope, drinking a cold cup of coffee, listening to three radio nets blasting out tactical signals simultaneously while trying to figure out what formation we're in. The ET's can be found roaming around with a volt- meter in one hand and a soldering gun in the other try- ing vainly to repair a piece of gear which has decided to go out at its favorite time-the middle of the night. The SM's territory is the signal bridge maintaining The tools of his trade lnclude slgnal flags, flashing light and Nancy finfra-redl gear. He is usually found wet and cold, hunched over a signal light. Last but not least are the RlVl's who are usually found in Radio Central madly rushing around trying to untangle Pri-Tac from Pri-Cl on the patch board or listening to the constant dit-dahs coming over the CW circuit. From this story one might assume that the men of O Division are a bunch of nervous wrecks with blood- shot eyes and nasty dispositions. The arm and hammer men of the USS BELLE GROVE comprises that portion of individuals known as R Division. These adroit members of the ship are constantly summoned for repair work day or night. The shipfitter shop by day resounds with the clang- ing of hammers and the grating of hacksaws, closely resembling the sounds of HlVIorning, Catfish Row from the musical score of '4Porgy and Bess. The carpenters constantly correct 'cminorw mishaps imposed upon the ship's boats, fabricate all types of wood objects from mosquito screens to stereo cabi- nets, and in their spare time do some leatherwork, guitar playing, scuba diving,-tailoring, bathe gun crews at general quarters, and write new publications as: How to Win at Horse Racing Through Better Watertight Integrityf, by '4Watertight', WALLACE. Contrary to popular belief, the repair gang does not complete ship's force work requests the day they are submitted. Occasionally, due to strenuous demands from many divisions, the work requests are completed one or two days after submission. Ballasting is another function of the HR', Division. This is usually practiced during meal hours or the Midwatch in order to further strengthen the Spartan traits well recognized by every member of the crew. '4Open the dumps is the war cry of the ballasting team when liberty is approaching. Let's hope the bridge, never receives the report: The sill is six feet over the water.
