Marvin Kemp We the 49'ers do dedicate our edition of the Bronc to Mr. Kemp who has been our faithful and patient leader through all our high school days. We send to him our best wishes for future success and happiness. F ORE WORD Seniors now, we are bald and grey with the studious life we've led, But proud of the knowledge stowed away in our small, but well-formed heads. We killed International iso calledj Law, Took Spanish and Chaucer fthe latter's rawj, Wound up with a thesis on Bernard Shaw -how much of that stuff is still in mind? Well, here is the dope we recollect from nineteen-four and nine: QDeems Taylorj No one will ever forget the memories associated with the high school days commemorated within the few ensuing pages - The joys and sorrows will ever be present Whenever you choose to turn back these pages in re- view of the passing year 1949. 2 ANNUAI STAFF ,WWMwmaAwvWMwvm Back Row, left to right: Don Lash, Bob Baird, Darrell Nickelson, Gene Shevling. A careful study of the history of this great nation of ours, its struggles for existence, its moments of elation, its heroes, its steady economic, political, and religious pro- gress, will spur us on to greater achievements today and in the future. However, we are realists. We are living in the present, not the past. We are anticipating the future, but regard- less of this reality and anticipation, we know that we as a nation and as a people have attained our high place as a nation, our high standard as a people, because of the experiences of our predecessors and their ability to add to previous experiences and to convert these experiences into progress. Here is our challenge. Can We correct and profit by the errors of the past, add to our inherited experiences, and mold these into new experiences of our own and promote progress in the direction of peace, prosperity and spiritual well-being? If we can do this then we are worthy recipients of our place in the world today. To the students of Belle High: May your stay with us be a profitable one. School life may be filled with so many challenging events, all of which may have some educational value in one way or another. What you learn in your formal classroom recitations is one educational factor and what you learn by the association of other people in organizations, com- mittee meetings, plays, or group discussions is another educational experience. All of which, must have a place in your lives to make an interesting experience. The idea that learning is a product of the classroom, and that one's education is completed when one leaves the classroom, is rapidly passing. We now feel education is generally re- garded as a continuous process which begins at birth and continues into the late adult years. Be proud of your school and help make it the best! 6 Wm. The number swelled into the 70's when we were freshmen, and stayed there through our sophomore year. Ah! Our Frosh Days! We had new prestige, for we had library privileges, and our snapshots were put below our class picture in the annual. We gained added recognition, by winning second prize for our Bronc Day float. But with prestige came initiation! The juniors did us up fine in baby bonnets, cardboard signs, white hose with green stripes, and shoes that did not match. These, plus having our clothes on back- wards, made us quite a spectacle! We were really getting up in the world when We were sophomores! The boys made the B, which was burned on the eve of Bronc Day. Our main accomplishment, though, was a Valentine's Day dance which we advertised by wearing large red cardboard hearts pinned to our clothes. We also had a magazine drive which netted 5450, and a play, Smilin' Through. We won first prize for our Bronc Day float, and proved we could yell by Winning the jug the most times at Pep Rallies. We worked for weeks painting Hats and readying the gym for the prom and banquet. We had a Hawaiian theme, and the background was of volcanoes, blue ocean, and flowers. The banquet was delayed a few minutes, for the lights failed. We began the meal in candle light and as the evening progressed the lights came on. In our senior year, we elected a Bronc Day Queen and Marshal, presented the play, Tish, and were the guests of the junior class at the prom and banquet.
