As head of the Deck De- partment, the First Lieutenant is responsible, under the Com- manding Officer, for the supervision of deck seamanship, operations and evolutions; for the employment and maintenance of the armament and ordinance equipment of the ships; and for the procurement, handling, stowage and issue of ammunition and pyrotechnics.
