Text from Pages 1 - 152 of the 1968 volume:

ue LANCE 1968 BELLARMINE COLLEGE LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY Bellarmine is a living, growing, feeling body composed of men and women involved to different degrees and depths in the existential situation which is student life. Each immersion into the educational en- vironment involves struggle—struggle with self, with others, and with the learning ex- perience—a struggle for perfection. This Baptism of struggle is for some restricted to the classroom while for others there is much more; but for all, if there have been or will be ‘four empty years, then it is | who bear the responsibility for this’ (J. P. Sartre). For there exist side by side and equally prominent both opportunities for the good and the bad. Bellarmine is as often deficient as it is efficient. But for none can this be offered as excuse for an empty four years or even for an empty four days. Though Bellarmine must be classified small in every way, much of value still offers itself to the aware and willing student, and every member of the community is thus afforded an opportunity for meaningful en- counter. This should be a source of per- sonal and communal pride—and we here chronicle it. Ae 5 att gen We were wanderers on a prehistoric earth, on an ear th that wore the aspect of an unknown planet. MATH CLUB Three years and two months ago the Math Club brought forth a new ideal conceived in education and ded- icated to the pursuit of mathematics. PHILOSOPHY CLUB Ivory towers belong to the spirit of other ages. Today’s_ philosophers prefer to live in the house of man. | Honor Society in Psychology, is to further psychology as a science and profession and to encourage = scholar- ship in its members. True to this spirit of openness to human meaning, the Philosophy Round table challenges its members with the currents of thought. Round table sponsored films in conjunction with the ‘‘Viet-Nam Sum- mer” movement as well as Bellar- mine’s conference on Judaism. They devoted the spring semester to East- ern thought. This interest in dynam- ic dimensions of human existence, | the hallmark of a true philosopher is the organizational goal promoted by and synonymous with Bellar- mine’s Philosophy Round table Psi Chi. PSYCHOLOGY CLUB The Psychology club aims at meet- i ng the psychology students’ needs and interests which are not satisfied in class alone. Through films, dis- cussions, and practical experience, the club intends to acquaint psy- chology students with professional psychology. Among its various activ- ities, the Psychology club sponsored volunteer work at St. Thomas—St. Vincent Orphanage. It also presented a series of five films on mental health for the college community.
