The Bellarmine Varsity Football Team finished the '73 season with a 6-4 overall record under head coach, John Hanna. The highpoint of the season was the tilt against Archbishop Mitty High School at Buck Shaw Stadium, where the Spirit Week came to a crashing end when the Bells lost to the Monarchs. Overall the season's performance was erratic and so was the needed spirit of the student body, which was often absent during most important gridiron battles. Standouts for the Big Blue Machine were All- League Defensive Back, Paul Dinapoli lDefensive Player of the Yearli running back, Marty King: all league defensive end, Pete Grassi: and the sensational sophomore middle linebacker, Jim Maher. Voted Most valuable player by his teammates was Bob Selvi, who also received the honors of most Tim Schmidt valuable lineman in the WCAL and captain of the team. Congratulations to fullback, Gary Spicer, for winning the Billy Schmidt award, tight end Tim Schmidt for tying the Bellarmine touchdown pass reception record with 7 TD catches, when previous to this season he never played contact football, thus stealing the most-improved award and making himself part of the all-league team along with Mike Dahlin and Wild Bill Perry, who also was voted most inspirational player by his teammates. Last but not least are the 31 other individual players who did not receive trophies or awards but experienced one more facet of life together as a team. There are 13 players returning from this year's team to suit up in the Blue and White, six of them starters in '74,
