The Rev. F. Dillon, S.J. was appointed Vice-Superior under the Rev. Z, Maher, S.J., Presi- dent of the University, On March l9, l926 Fr. Dillon was appointed Superior and the University of Santa Clara High School became completely independent of the University of Santa Clara. During 1927 the Rev. James Hayes, S.J. was appointed Superior of the High School. ln March of l928 the name was changed to Bellarmine College Preparatory. ln l93l, after serving as Superior for one year, the late Rev. Lewis McCann, S.J. was appointed first Rector of Bellarmine. lt was through Fr. Mc- Cann's efforts that the first Mothers' Club was organized to aid in the rebuilding of the aged college campus. At this time several old buildings were removed to make way for future improve- ments. Through the progressive ideas and the foresight of Father McCann and his predecessors, the pres- ent Bellarmine was made a possibility, 01 Clltfornll. JIM!!
