The bent doorhandles, cracking glass, rusted hinges render the school doors useless. Throw your body against the door and wham. The door will be dented, your hip will be dented, but you have gained admittance. The halls are easy to travel, being permanent, impersonal. Students plaster posters along the walls with tape, but the signs are soon reiected. The tape loses its stick. The posters wilt and slide to the floor. But civi- lized wooden doors with door knobs open into the halls. Follow your nose and your eyes and your ears, you have penetrated. Have you ever taken a tour of this school? Stop by the counselors' offices, they always have hard butterscotch candies to make you smile. Move on. Do you know how an art room smells? The typing teachers make bad neighbors. ln the middle of history class, lectures are interrupted, And one-two-three, F-F-G, and . . When they type to music, that's even worse. Drop by the au- ditorium. A few critics will be looped among the expanse of brown chairs. Those magic people on stage are really your classmates. Through the stairway windows on the second floor, look at the playing field. The dew will stamp those who sit under the tree and visit. Go by the cooking classes.
