' w X ff : A 21 ,31 ' Utd I . lm m st ily-' U 'lv . ' I 'f. ir 1 ' 5 ' :Q if , 'Q E 2 5' PWS K A ' 5 ' E2 - 3, sa w il l Foreword By the clear, blue waters of the Ohio River exactly 150 years ago, a city was born. Where not so long ago Indians had lived, the early settlers laid the foun- dation for a town that was destined to play an impor- tant part in the history of Ohio. By 1832 Belle Aire las it was originally calledl was a shipping center. It built railroads and made plans for highways. Her industries began to grow, and although a decline of the same caused a similar decline in population, Bellaire is still the second largest city in Belmont County. In Bellaire you will still find iron foundries, enamel works, glass houses, and the Bell Telephone Co. to mention a few. Although the first school was not built until 1839, education has f1ourished, and today Bellaire High School is one of the main points of interest in our city. Recreation is not overlooked either! This is proved by our four playgrounds and the swimming pool. Last, but certainly not least, is the athletic de- partment of our school, which has for many years turned out great athletes and fine sportsmen. All in all we can be sure that it is cities such as ours that form the backbone of a great nation. Bel- laire has earned, and is proud of the nickname The All-American Town! 1 Us ill WH 2 3 .
