He played football with his heart and soul in the game. Fosh was one of Bellaire's two regular All-Valley men, besides being mentioned on an All-State team. joe is a junior and will be back again this year. JOSEPH KALDOR-End-5'-9 -165 lbs. Joe was a mainstay at an end position on the team. He could play either end. joe was a deadly tackler, an adept pass receiver and very fast on going down under punts. RICHARD KAI.IsIIzsKI-End-5'-11 -181 lbs.- a Senior and Bellaire's only All-State man. He and Kaldor were one of the best set of ends in the valley. Rick was big and rugged and a fine offensive and defensive man and will make good college material. Richard, a two-year letterman, was on the squad for four years. JOHN SITAR-End--5'-10 V2-165 lbs. Although not a regular, john saw Inuch action during the season and made the regular ends step lively for their positions. HAROLD DOTY-Tackle-5'-10 -200 lbs. Butch was the biggest man on the squad. The past season was his first and last as a regular on the team, although he was out for football in his first two years of school. Butch was a big, fast man most dreaded by all opposing backfield men. LEO KRusIENsKY-Tackle-5'-9 -175 lbs. Leo was the quietest but one of the toughest men on the squad. He shared starting honors with Skorich, a junior. This was his first year as a letterman but fourth on the squad. FORREST MI2I.LOTT-Tackle-5'-9'C175 lbs. Mose was on a par with Krusiensky. This was his hrst season as a letterman but he was on the squad for four years. DEAN GIACOMETTI-Guard-5'-8 -155 lbs. Muggsy started the season as a backfield man, he was made over into a guard. Dean was one of the fastest men on the squad, a wonderful defensive man and a great interference leader. This was his first and last season. BENNY PERZANOWSKI-Guard5'-6 -150 lbs. Benny was very fast and could always be seen in front of one of his own backfield men, leading interference. He backed up the defense line in fine style. ANTHONY MALATINSKY-Guard-5'-7 '150 lbs. Anton was one of the three backfield men shifted into a guard position. He did not see much service but remained loyal to the squad during the whole season. Anton graduates after one year of service. FREDERICK VOLLDMAN-Halfback-5'-8'H143 lbs. After a spectacular per- formance in the Bridgeport game Ashie had to give up football due to injuries sustained. Ashie showed possibilities of becoming an outstanding halfback and his loss was keenly felt. ALBERT CARLRTON-Quarterback-5h10 -190 lbs.. Fat had much to do with the success of the team due to his great blocking ability. He was the mainstay of the Bellaire defense, backing up the line and being a fine ball carrier. COLUMBO DEPAuLIs-Fullback-5'-7 -165 lbs. Babe was not a touch- down getter, but he kept plugging away to help his backfield mates put the ball over the goal. He did most of the punting, was a good ball carrier, and a good blocker. DePaulis, along with Accrocco, was Bellaire's representative on numerous All-Valley selections. 'ri Q ' Vt! ' n 'n A ,, .. . They started out with nearly every member playing for his own interests and ended up with a smooth, fast clicking team. The most looked forward to game of the season on the part of the players was the Wheeling game. Wheeling in the opinion of many had the best team in the valley and West Virginia and expected to avenge their defeat in football by a very lopsided score. But when the final gun went off, they had beaten Bellaire only by 12 points. So it was proved that the Big Reds had greatly improved their game. Head basketball coach, Tom Dixon, went through this trying season with a chin held high. He took it with his team, as all fine coaches do. There were only four seniors on the team this year, Frank Soloninka, john Sitar, Don Reese and Bob Jarrett. Frankie, you know, was one of the boys who could be counted on as ready to tight when his team was in need. He is about 5'7 and is a little in need of more pounds per unit of area. But with every ounce he has, he is pushing forward in the game. Cigar , john Sitar, was a main stave in the team toward the end of the season. He proved himself very valuable under the defending basket and on offensive shots from the side of the floor. johnny is a 6 footer which made good football material as well as basketball material. His heart's desire is to win the heavyweight boxing crown of the world, so don't be surprised when he does. Don, Legs , Reese is the tallest member on the team, not weighing much more than the shortest. Don had the misfortune of getting the Hu a few days after the last Union game, which kept him down some in the others. Bob Jarrett, best known as Circus to the boys on the team, was one of the most outstanding players of the season. He came to Bellaire Hi as a lettermen from Charleston, West Virginia. Along the first part of the season he was caught in somewhat of a slump but seemed to snap out of it along towards the end of the season. So, so long to these boys and best of luck to them in future athletics. May they always have a name like Bellaire to fight for. 1958 RECORD Bellaire Bellaire 5 5 Clarington ....... ..... 3 2 3 5 Tiltonsville ...... ..... 3 6 49 Toronto ....,... ...... 6 1 24 Shadyside ..... ...... 2 9 32 Bridgeport ....... ...., 3 5 18 Bridgeport ........... ...,. 3 1 39 Martins Ferry ..... ..... 3 7 37 Martins Ferry .... ..... 2 0 29 Warwood ........ ..... 2 7 17 Union .............. ..... 4 2 34 Union ........... ..... 3 2 41 Shadyside ...... ..... 3 5 32 Triadelphia ...... ..... 4 1 41 Tiltonsville ...... ..... 2 0 11 Linsly ................... ..... 3 6 29 Wheeling ..... ..... 4 1 32 St. Clairsville ...... ......... 2 8 Tournament Scores: 2 5 Bellaire ............................ 29 Bridgeport i 60 I .5 TRACK TEAM At the date of writing, track has not been completed. Several preliminary meets have been held but the more important ones are yet to come. However, indica- tions are that the season will be a fairly successful one. Perhaps the most ambitious track program in B. H. S. history has been undertakaen this year with exceptionally good results. The seniors on the track squad opposite the event in which they par- ticipated follow: Reese-hurdles, jumps, javelin Vogt--distances Jarrett-high jumps Steger-pole vault Gibsonghurdles, distance runner Keyser-pole vault Volleman fCaptainj-Sprints up to 400 Deafenbaughgpole vault Malatinsky-440 yard dash Carleton-weights Posledni--quarter mile, broad jump Kaldor-javelin Among these the loss of Reese, Volleman and Carleton will be most keenly felt by next year's team. Other members of the track team and their respective events include: Mooney-dashes and pole vault Fordyce-hurdler Wfade-sprinter Kahl--half-mile Obejenskigsprints Gillf -half-mile Rausher-sprints and weights Moore-mile Prince-hurdles Bovenizer-jumps Skorich--weights Linardf-hurdler Neff-ajavelin lohnson-distances. Dunfee, Kirkland and Salonikafmanagers The coaches were Glenn and Polinsky to whom much credit should be given for the excellent manner in which they conducted the track program. -,,f ,,. At every game a new formation was planned in honor of each visiting team. The Concert Band was organized a short time later. To be a member, each student had to play a solo and participate in one or more ensembles. Many times during the school year the soloists and ensembles have taken part in various programs sponsored by the community and have given their talents will- ingly. Quite a number of our boys took part in the Clinic Band of the Ohio Valley. There are to be two solo and ensemble contests at which our band will be well represented as well as the annual Eastern Ohio District Contest to be held at Bridgeport. We have been very fortunate in having a new music room in the newly finished part of the building. This ideal practice room together with the instruments recently added will enable us to have a much better organization. The Band Mother's Club, through its unfailing efifort to raise funds for new equipment deserves a great deal of credit for the band of which we are so proud. Due to the co-operation of school authorities and the donation of two very fine string instructors, Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Clayton, by the Tri-State Music Association, the orchestra has made a great step forward. The orchestra practice has been put on regular school time and the members rcceive academic credit. In two years time we hope to have balanced symphonic instrumentation. T By saving you contribute not only to your own welfare, but to the progress of your community and your country. The small sums you deposit regularly grow into large amounts which give you 1 the purchasing power to buy the worth- while things of life. Reduced to its simplest terms, thrift is the sign of determination to succeed. We urge it as the foundation of your plan for living.
