Everyone has his own role to play, this role being great or small, depending on the amount of ambition put forth. This consisted of a Panel Discussion on the various extra activitiesofourschool. The pro- gram proved to be both education- al and entertaining. First girl in Senior class to have aring on that third finger. Spends most of her time with Sonny , Dislikes people who show poor sportsmanship. Would like,to take up nursing after graduation. GERALDINE YVONNE DeGRAZlA Jerry -Academic whiz. Never came to class with- out her work done. A very versatile lass, she sings and plays the piano, trombone, and violin. M. C. A. It was started at Bell Township in 1943. its members include the Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.. The first proiect of the year, with the help of the' F. H. A. , was sending Christmas gifts, cookies and candy to the Greensburg Orphanage. The candy and cookies were mode by the girls at a Christmas party, and the gifts were brought in instead of the usual exchange gifts. The second proiectwas teaching dancing lessons to anyone who wished to learn. These peo- ple were given free tickets to the Tri-Hi-Y dance, Cupid's Cotillion. Under the direction of Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Meighan, they have achieved quite a lot this year. The big event this year was raising money for the Johnny Yuha Fund. Johnny was iniured during the Bell- Elders Ridge football game. The annual magazine campaign was a big success with the assistance of Mr. Meighan. Magazine chairman was Tony Palmiscno, with James Ferrero as the highest salesman. Lastyear's Varsity Club gave the first S250 toward the sum of money needed to send the football team to camp. This was the first year the football team has ever been sent to camp. The Varsity Clubis responsible for the annual All Sports Banquet. Funds for the banquet are raised by sponsoring the Donkey Basketball Games. Two days a week band instructions are given in the Saline Church. For the Christmas Holi- days they gave a concert together with the chorus. They also performed in many school activities. Thosewho tried out for District Band were: Vince Colianni, Ray DeSimone, James Fallone, John Clawson, Dennis Trabits, John Cicala, Mary Jean Clawson, and Eleanor Richards. For the first time in our school, with much effort and many drills our band perfected four intricate formations, which they performed at football games. Reed The Bell Echo is our school newspaper which is published six times yearly. It sells for the subscription price of 51.00 per year. The paper consists of four printed sheets with news items and features contained in it. This year several girls, accompanied by Mr. McLaughlin, attended the Press Conference at Penn High School, where they got many new ideas. The name given to it was Bee Tee Vie, which means Bell Township life. This has remained the same. The main activity of the Senior Class, through the years, has been to put forth a yearbook. All the net proceeds of the year go towards this purpose. The skillful cooperation of the entire staff is the main factor of a successful yearbook. Vilary The student council is under the supervision of Mr. Vilary. It consists of four representatives from each class with the exception of the Senior Class which has eight representatives. The council performs many unseen duties around school. Some of these duties are the vigilant hall patrol and ticket sellers at games. High Schodl, with the aid of Miss Mariorie Ewing, English instructor, began the first cheerleading squad. They with the help of the other teachers, selected four Seniors, three girls and one boy, whom they thought would make the best cheerleaders. The following year, l93O, two girls and one boy were chosen at an assembly by the applause of the student body with the teachers acting as iudges. These in turn trained the next cheerleaders, which has been the custom ever since. The cheerleaders organize the cheering at pep meetings and games and thus help promote school spirit. Under the supervision of Mrs. Pauline Smith, the Bell Township Lionettes completed an excellent sea- son with seven victories and one defeat. The Belles chalked up 290 points against their opponents l83points. The opening game of the season for the Bell Lionettes was Franklin. This was a breath-taking affair for everyone who observed the game. The Lionettes caged a 23-30 victory. The second game with the Alumni saw the Lionettes victorious with the close score of 3l-30. The Bell sextet found bitter defeat with Saltsburg. Bell led the first quarter but in vain, for the Troh ianettes broke loose to win c 31-25 decision. Export's visit to our gym was welcomed. The fast moving Panthers fought a terrific battle but the Lion- ettes outclawed them with 37-30 victory. ln a return game, Bell won with a 43-I8 setback. To end the season the Lassies won comparatively easy victories over Vandergrift Q34-91, Freeport Q51- l6,, and the Alumni C46-295. The return game with Saltsburg was not yet played. The hardwood quintet completed another fine season with a record of I8 wins and 3 losses in regular play. The Basketeers annexed the Section 2l crown For their third successive year with a I3-l record. The Hamilton Machine lost two of their defeats to Class A Schools: Vandergrift and Leechburg and on their re- turn in the second round the Red and Black defeated the A competition with little trouble. The Big Five were awarded the Little Six trophy and also the Section 21 crown. The first six Varsity players consisted of four Seniors, one Junior, and one Sophomore: namely: Jack Shoupe, Jim Ripple, Jim Eckenrode, James Shellhammer, George Markuzic and John Weiss. Of the first six, John Weiss is the Lone Star to return next year. To Coach Hamilton and the boys of the Team goes sincere congratulations for their fine play and sports- manship. An outstanding and unusual fact of the season was that after we defeated Franklin Township twice, they in turn went on to play in the WPIAL play-offs. Due to'our loss to Saltsburg we were eliminated from competing.
