Hamilton, Athletic Director of Bell Township High School. I FMWWMW The theme of the Bee Tee Vie of 1951 is proverbs. Proverbs are short familiar sayings, expressing well known truths. There is a proverb for nearly everything that can be said. Proverbs are used much more than is ordinarily realized. For that reason we have chosen to carry throughout our book these wise sayings which are indicative of the various people and activities. We have given the favorite proverbs of the seniors and faculty. The variety of these indicates the wide spread usuage of proverbs. We feel they say much more in a few words than we could say in many. Lions Score Second Undefeated, Untied Season The Bell Township's powerful pigskin carriers, with its superb reserve, completed for the second time in Bell's his- tory an undefeated untied season. The chargers rolled over nine straight class B opponents and scored 380 points to their oppenents 39, which proved a great defensive and of- fensive team. With their T formation the Lions averaged 334 yards per game. Trimming Elders Ridge in the final game 19-0 gave the Lions a record of twenty two straight wins over a per- iod of three years. Under the guidance of Mr. George T. Hamil- ton and aided by Mr. Edward Meighan the Lions capped the Little Six Diadem' and were West- moreland County Champs. Eugene Shelkey and Lyle Shearer were co-captains while Neil Larimer called the plays. Entering the Westmoreland County Tournament the Lions were vic- torious in four games losing only to Derry Boro 36-34, in the last two sec- onds, in the finals. In the W.P.I.A.L. tournament, the Lions met Shannock Valley at Claridge to suffer a 48-47 defeat in the last fifteen seconds. Makes Many Points! GIRL BA KB'l'BALl. If at first you don't succeed, try, 'try again. With the help of coach Pauline Smith, the Girls Varsity Basketball team completed a fine season with a record of seven wins, three losses and one tie. The efficient scoring Lionette machine garnered 412 points to the opponents 1:93. The opening game of the season was with the Saltsburg Trojanettes. The Bell sextet broke loose and lead throughout the game by a ten point margin until the final quarter. The sudden scoring of the Trojanettes ended the game in an undecided victory of 32-32. The second game of the season found the sextet traveling to iixport's arena to receive their first bitter taste of defeat. The quick moving Pan- thers helped to chase the Lionettes back into their cage with a 2-I-31 defeat. The decisive manner in which they defeated the highly rated and undefeated Franklin sextet by a score of 30-23 was the highlight of the season. For the grimmest and toughest duel of the season, the Bell sextet traveled to the Trojanette floor. The Saltsburg soldiers lead throughout the game until the last quarter when the fighting of the Belles began to show. At the end of the game the Trojanettes edged the Lionettes by two points. The first half of the season ended with the Lionettes meeting Frank- lin Twp. on our own floor. Franklin won an extremely close contest in the last four minutes of play, when they bombarded the hoop with a field goal and free throw. Thus they edged out the Lionettes with a 22-25 de- feat. For the second time the Lionettes met the Export Panthers on the Bell floor ring. After the first quarter, the raging Belles broke loose leav- ing the Panthers behind in a daze. For the remainder of the season, the Bell sextet accomplished four relatively easy victories over the Freeport and Vandergrift G.A. A. girls.
