For nine days the 560 girls attending organized themselves into cities, coun- ties, and states. From there we proceeded to elect officials and learn the political procedures of each level. This proved to be a rewarding experience for me. I now feel better prepared for understanding and participating in govern- mental procedures. Diane Bibb T24 Girly' Ami oyx' Smre ln Sacramento, 850 high school seniors were brought together at the old State Fair Grounds to attend the American Legion sponsored Boy's State. During the week stay there, we set up our own state and local governments. This way, we learned the good and the bad parts of our form of government. The food wasn't the greatest, but it was still a pleasurable experience. I am grateful to have been selected to represent Bell Gardens Senior High. I've had beTTer won-losT records Than This years II4-IQI, buf I don'T Think I have ever had a beTTer inexperienced group of kids. They really scrapped. They never quiT. IT was a real TreaT working wiTh a group like This. Bell Gardens placed second IasT year in The Rio I-Iondo League and reached The semi-finals in The CIF, buT we had no sTarTers back from ThaT varsiTy ball club. This year, wiTh no experience, everyone expecTed us To fall TIaT on our face, buT, wiTh The religious aid and assisTance of my colleague, Coach Porter IThe league predicfed us 5Th placel, iT didn'T pan ouT ThaT way. AfTer round one, The Lancers were once again looked upon as a ThreaT To some of our norThern compeTiTors. STarTing The second round of play, The inexperienced, so called, sTarTed To develop inTo a machine, Jnd we all knew Thar we would be in The playoffs once again, Summer ball and our Tough pracTice games during The season, losing by 5 To I2 poinTs gave us some indicaTion of a good year ahead. We had These experiences To combaT The challenges which were ahead of us. I feel The Team did quiTe well. Ask Them. BaskeTbaII is a year-round sporT wiTh my boys. With such a small staff, each person had a little more work to take upon himself. Although at times Swany and l thought we'd never meet the deadlines, the Staff, after a little pep talk and staying late once in a while, would pull through. l wish to thank the entire staff and photographers for their untiring efforts. Also, there are a number of people who although they were not on the staff, they lent a hand in making this yearbook possible. I'm especially grateful to Swany. Without his constant help, I doubt if we could have done it. Looking back on this year's activities has left me with many happy memories. I hope that each and every one of you find something of the same sort in this 1970 edition of the Charger. B P l87 ,,................ WWW ' WM ..,.
