JACK BRADY We the builders of Bell Gardens Senior High School dedicate this, our Annual the Charger of nineteen fifty to Mr. Jack Brady, who has helped to build a firm foundation for this . . . our school., Because of his unending and untiring efforts he has developed school spirit and a loyalty that is ever growing through the Art and Journalism fields. Mr. Brady has been with us for the full three years that our school has been in existence. With him he has brought to us the spirit of ambition, determination and a strong desire to present bigger and better things in the fields of Jour- nalism and Art. He has been an inspiration and true friend to all of us here on the campus. His droll sense of humor has made the hard task of presenting a book to our readers a joy and privilege. And so it is with sincere and grateful appreciation that we builders of the future dedicate this book, the third edition to Mr. Jack Brady our counselor and advisor in Journalism and Art. -. All of their accomplishments haven't been quiet however, they did find time to sponsor Alumni Day, the Spring Carnival, and to work out, and install a Merit System into our school. After completing another year at Bell Gar- dens, we have found that once again we have chosen our leaders wisely. Best of luck to all the graduating Seniors, and to the Juniors and Sophomores, let me say that you have every- thing necessary to make next year even better. . The Student Council of this past year has proven itself to be very capable of solving every problem, both large and small. Each home-room at the beginning of the fall semester selected a home-room representative that would attend all meetings of the Student Council. Without the functioning of this group the successful year that we have iust witnessed would have been a complete failure, without this group the rest of the students would not know what work was being done for their benefit. ln Student Council every student had the opportunity to express their own opinion, and that of their home- room, and out of this came a very successful year. Our third year as a school has come to an end, and as we look over our labors, there is much to be proud of. Student cooperation was never better. Your Student Government has been very active and effective in its work. For the first time we have been able to hold assemblies under ideal conditions. Our stu- dents have been quick to take advantage of assemblies to improve our social activities and behavior. Of course, it would be foolish to say we have reached our goal, for all know we have much to strive for. The satisfying part of it is that we know our students will strive for the best that is in them. We are confident that satisfaction will be reached only when we have been able to see positive and con- structive results accomplished. lt is my wish that all of you can truthfully say, This has been one of my most enioyable and profitable years. Congratulations to our Senior Class, and may the future years be bright for all. Sincerely, A WLM. They have proven that they are conscious of us, the future builders and citizens of a great land. This past year we found the faculty having as good a time as any of the students. Beginning the new year they had a Chicken dinner iust to get acquainted, and for the December P.T.A. meeting there was a dinner for them in Lab. 21. Our faculty presented Mr. and Mrs. Evers with a set of Revere Wear at a Taco feed given in honor of the pair. And last, but certainly not least, they pre- sented an assembly which proved to us what a swell and talented group of teachers we have. He was naked and alone in an unfriendly world. Survival was due to his own individual efforts, and few sur- vived. But he found the way to companionship and association with his fellow men. Together they built a great civilization founded on the spirit of coopera- tion. Obstacles had to be overcome, problems solved, barriers surmounted. But always man progressed- by working together. Today we look backward at the builders, the men and women from many lands, from all the eras of history, who gave to us our tradition of life in a free, self-directed democracy, and we are thankful for their courage, vision, and devotion to ideals. The lesson for us is this: We, too, can build a better world, but only by working together, sharing our responsibilities with our neighbors as we press for- ward toward a greater frontier for mankind. gaczfwl of 5 045506 N X I O Having completed two years of successful high school building of education, we the Seniors began our third year by calling an assembly where dates and special events were chosen. Committees were appointed and immediately the class officers began to work on the coming events. Today we reminisce on the good times we had. Yes, Seniors, Remember . . . Alumni Day where old friends were seen again, the snow party, Senior picnic, play, and banquet . . . the beautiful Jun- ior-Senior Prom, the presentation of the trophy case which was given as a gift to the school from the class of 1950, and climaxed with our class being the first to graduate from the new auditorium. We have completed three years of successful high school education and activities. We now look forward to building a successful future. The Senior Class of T950 has at last received its cue for their final exit. These 200 Students have come a long way to reach this final climax. Some will be going out to build a great future as teachers, min- isters, engineers, doctors. Some will devote their lives to the American home. But what-ever field they choose they will be helping to build a bigger and better America for tomorrow. Time and change always go hand in hand as we have witnessed. We the,Seniors can see our lives like an open book revealed to us as we look back on the last few years. Remember . . . when we graduated from the 9th grade, the first dance we ever attended, the Junior-Senior prom, and climaxed with the Baccalaureate service which brought proud tears to our eyes. Yes, we the Seniors have come a long way and we can readily be very proud of the stand that we are now able to take. We must not stop now, these last few years have just been the beginning of our lives. As we leave our Alma Mater we must be ready to assume the responsibilities that the outside world is going to bring. This building, impossible to describe because of its beauty and modern facilities,,has made it possible for us to have adequate assembly pro- grams, and community affairs. Also added to our campus was a new football field with bleachers that would seat the entire student body. New shops, trees, shrubs and a flower garden were also seen. Yes, as we returned in the fall we truly felt that something new had been added. I sa Owmewwm ...f .I W...- P - X f -fi 'X vf Q'1.if f f ' 4- ' . Q I' ' K uv- 9- owo , X . A 1 U! They ended the season with a record of one win against 8 defeats. Their one win was a T9-6 encounter with Covina. The Lancers finished seventh, which was no shame considering the odds that faced them. One of the squad's most outstanding plays of the year was a completed pass from Les Mabey to Jack Bell, good for 50 yards. Robert Smith, Johnny Moore and Earl Fancher proved to be rugged, merciless linemen. Doner also made exceptionally fine runners out of Les Mabey and Lloyd Wooler. Other mainstays on the squad were Jack Elser, Jack Bell, Blaine Keller, Art Kutcher, Vance Blakely, Billy Antoine, John Mc- Nichols, Ernie Vanderberg, and Robert Hunter. 1-,xzmx if Xi. ,,,. Although they have had only one league game, they knocked over Burbank, their first ob- stacle, 7-5. They lost the first practice tilt, a real heart-breaker, to Montebello 2-O, despite the brilliant pitching of Sophomore Jerry Wright. Games with El Monte and Montebello were also on their practice schedule. George Pike, a student teacher, took the reigns of the squad and produced championship quality. Some of the hardballers who should go places on the Varsity are: Sophomore Don Nickols, .lack Elser, George Burns, Grant Sheperd and Jerry Wright. . ,4 A fer-fi' X 1 N X , . 1 ,k. ,4 xxx vt. I b , . Marshall Latimer's merry men opened the season in fair style, taking two of their three initial encounters, both from the Anaheim Colonists. James Hoyle, Eddie Martin and Bob Stewart shared the mound duties with Jack Gannon handling most of the back-stopping. Other regulars included: Bob Hunter, Bob Lloyd, Fred Heincecke, Bobby Dawes, Wiley Strickland, Jack Bowers, Billy Antoine, Billy Davis, Vance Blakely and Quincy Forster. s - fd, 11 ' tj 44f,'.' 1 1 A 7 ' is 2 Q.
