Richard Eberhart RICH RD EBERH RT FEBRUARY 1 On his first visit to Mississippi, Richard Eber- hart presented a program of readings and criti- cal comments on some of his best-know poems. Beginning with his earliest works and progress- ing to his latest, Mr. Eberhart pointed out various moods and changes of attitude as he read. His comments ranged from numerous references to philosophy to a discussion of the inspiration of poetry. Mr. Ransom speaks with Eudora Welty, another featured speaker in the literary series. .wi jr ' Belhaven student sceks an autograph. .lohn Crowe Ransom's poems, critic Randall ,larrell has said, are full of an alfection that cannot help itself for an innocence that cannot help itselff' As the first speaker in Belhaven's literary series, Mr. Ransom proved that state- ment true to 'an audience of students, faculty, and guests. The poet gave read- ings from his three volumes of poetry with such varied topics as death., leg- ends, and the meeting of lovers. Insert- ing humorous anecdotes and asides., Mr. Ransom kept his audience charmed through the readings of some of his best-known and best-loved poems.
