A CHAMPIONSHIP TRADITION This year's senior soccer players had a tradition to uphold, that of playing winning soccer. Since their sophomore year, this senior class has won the county Class D championship for 3 straight years, and the New York State Section V championship for 3 consecutive years. The nucleus of this year's team was used to playing on a champion. Steve Spink, John Cov- eil, and Jerry Enders have started on all three of Coach Vienna's championship soccer teams. It is certain that these three helped tremendously in winning all six trophies. This year's team swept through regular league play with an unblemished record of 10-0. 4 year varsity veterans Clair Luce and Covell blended with sophomores Rick Wiseman, Gary Has- kins, and Wally Enders to form a potent front line that scored more than 50 goals. Jim Stein- biser, Bill Waldren, and Enders proved themselves a rock-solid wall of halfbacks. Improved fullbacks Pat Metcalf and Chuck Farwell teamed with goalie Spink to allow only TWO goals the entire season. In the playoffs Belfast swept past Wyoming 7-0 in the quarter finals, defeated Greenwood 2-0 in the semi-finals, and then we beat our league rival Angelica for the third time at Geneseo by the score of 1-0. This capped an undefeated and perfect season for Coach Vienna's Bulldogs. Next season the league will be tough, but the Bulldogs have a tradition to uphold! 41 COACH VIENNA 42 The school wishes to thank Coach Vienna for his.help in forming our winning teams LEAGUE AND COUNTY CHAMPS Manager, J. If Tom overcomes his timidness under the boards, his shooting, rebounding, and defense could make him an excellent player. 6' senior Dave Nicholson scores here against Whites- ville. Dave's shooting and rebounding make him an as- set to our good bench. 6' senior Dan Hunt, shown above a- gainst Whitesville, is a veteran from last year's varsity. Dan's fierce re- bounding and improved shooting has earned him a starting berth this year. 5' 4” senior George Moyer is short, but he can shoot. George is a capable second string guard whose aggressive play is his trademark. 5' 10” sophomore starter Rick Wiseman has been a valuable addition from the J.V. 's. Rick’s ballhandling, passing, and outside shooting are his foremost assets. Like all sophomores Rick has great potential. 5' 7 sophomore Wally Enders is shown here driving against Whitesville. Wally's im- porved play gives indications that next year's team might see more of him. Wally is a good ballhandler and drives well. 50 6' 1 1 2 John Coveil is the team's co-captain, as well as being a varsity starter for the third straight year. John’s deadly shooting, rugged re- bounding, good defense, and deft passing make him val- uable to the team. 5’ 10 Pat Metcalf, passing off here against Whitesville, is valuable to the team for his versatility. Pat, a senior, can play guard or forward, he is a good outside shooter, and a competent rebounder. Head and shoulders above the rest, 6' 6 Steve Bedwell drops in two points against Whitesville. Steve, a sopho- more, has displayed his scoring, re- bounding, and most important his in- timidating defense as a starter this year. A 6' 2” varsiiy starter for three years, senior co-captain Steve Spink is shown here re- bounding against Friendship. Steve's rebounding, scoring, and defense make him a very valuable asset to our team. 5 8 senior veteran Jim Stein- biser is just rounding into form after a soccer injury. When Jim regains his former mo- bility, his accurate jump shot against our opponents will give us added outside scoring strength, needed against a good zone defense. 6' junior Chuck Farwell shoots for two against Whitesville. Chuck is the team's sixth man, and his accurate shooting eye is often needed against oppos- ing defenses. J.V. BASKETBALL BACK ROW: L. to R: D. Noether, M. Morton, J. Cockle, D. Sweet, D. Metcalf, B.
