He was a mem- ber of the Broadcast for two years; this year he was Business Manager of Belorea. His ravorite pastime as a Senior seemed to be Camera Club. (Why? We don't know.) Clarence's hobbies are baking, cooking and art work. His ma- jor ambition in life is to be a chef and from all indications, he should be a good one. As for her future, she is unde- cided, but would like to further her educa- tion in some field of WILMA MICHAEL A very quiet senior colleen was Wilma,, whose favorite pastime is reading. However, she worked with a smile at all the sen- ior money-making pro- jects to make our Washington trip a suc- cess. During her Freshman year, she sang in the Girls' Choir and too- ted clarinet in the Band. In her senior year, Wilma greatly enjoyed being able to pose for, take and de- velop pictures in Cam- era Club. She plans on attend- ing Roberts Wesleyan College next fall for a Liberal Arts course. Math, V DONNA MARIE SPENCER Donna has taken part in many school activi- ties. She sang in the Freshman Choir and played in the Band for two years. A collegian at Gen- eseo she will be next MARIGRACE SWEET Gay, 11 our amiable cheerleader”, has held that title for four years. Her dramatic ability showed in the Junior and Senior Plays in which she had leading roles (Remem- ber her as Ceelie”?). Gay was also on the Belorea and Broadcast staffs and a member of the Student Council. This last year she spent most of her time developing, printing, and enlarging pictures (thanks of the Camera Club and ”Uncle Dom”). Gay has received her acceptance to Geneseo, but she may decide up- on Cortland instead. GRACE UNFUS Grace, the blonde of our Senior Class, had two choico school ac- tivities: Band and Camera Club. She was excellent in the Sen- ior Play as ”Jane”, who was almost a typi- cal Grace. Grace was the competent Broad- cast Typing Editor • She excels in all the sports—softball's her favorite. She often thinks of herself as a tomboy”, but she Is- n’t really. Grace is a friend to everyone. She loves to tease”, but can be serious. Grace plans to go to Brockport State Teach- ers College and study physical education. ARLENE WATSON Arlene took a very active part In many aides of school life. She was a cheerleader and a member of the Choir and operettas her first three years. With her musical tal- ent, Arlene was a Band member; she studied piano, a hobby which she always enjoys. As Features Editor of the Broadcast her Junior and Senior years and • Literary Editor of Belorea her Junior year, she worked ener- getically. Elected Vice President of the Juniors, Arlene later became President of the Senior Class. Arlene completed her studies in January and commenced work. DOMENIC P. CURCIO We wish to say Thanks” to Domenic Curcio, our advisor for a trio of years. When we as Sophomores elected him as advisor we made a wise choice. His encouragement and patience certainly added to the spirit of the class. Mr. Curcio s many pastimes include hik- ing, hunting and fish- ing, Indian lore, and the camera. He re- celved his B. A. from Houghton and M. Ed. from Alfred. He has taught a total of twenty years--sixteen at Belfast. The Curcios reside at 70 Hughes. They have four children, Paul, Philip, Sylvia, and Celeste. MISS MARY MCCARTHY We, the Senior Class of 54, would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Mary Mc- Carthy, one of our faithful advisors in our Junior and Senior years. We 11 always remember the help and support she s given us and the fun she has been. Miss McCarthy has been dreaming about Bermuda ever since her visit there last Christmas. She tells us that her favorite hobbies are reading good books, entertain- ing, and Just making conversation with peo- ple. She has been making plans for a summer trip to London, England. . JUNIORS Second Row—Mrs. Hotchkiss, Janice Huff, William McCumiskey, Francis Dahill, Walter Kottwitz, Alan Chamberlain, Douglas Herrick, Philip Atherton, Joyce Hanft, Mr. Hale First Row—Patricia Reddy, Susan DeRock, Viola Opferbeck, Kay Kaufman, Carol Treusdell, Rebecca Burgess, Joan Kranz, Patricia Jones, Ardith McNamara Absent--Shlrley Wright When school reconvened this fall, we Juniors elected the following officers: President—Joan Kranz; Vice-President— Walt?Kottwitz; Secretary— Pat Reddy; Treasurer—Shirley Wright; Student Council Representatives—Alan Chamberlain and Carol Treusdell; and Advisors—Mrs. Evelyn Hotchkiss and Mr. Richard Hale. We Juniors entered high school under the guidance of Miss Mary Randall. We were average Freshmen until October 11 when we were officially welcomed by the Sophomores. During that year we journeyed to Franklinville for a skating party. Either we like business teachers—or they like us—for we entered our Sophomore year with Mrs. Hotchkiss as our advisor. Between this and the Junior year, we held a raffle which was highly successful. We have started some of our money-making projects and are planning others. We are also looking forward to the Junior-Senior Banquet and other activities. So far we have been presented as a class, but now we would like to be presented individually: Viola Opferbeck, a newcomer with beautiful blue eyes; Joyce Hanft, a girl who excels in sports; Kay Kaufman, one who wows 'em on the dance floor; pat Jones, an expert at the hook shot ; Sue DeRock, an artist at jitterbug dancing; Becky Burgess, an Oramelite with dangling earrings; Shirley Wright, a quiet one; Ardith McNamara, a driver everywhere in her Chevy; Carol Treusdell, a blushing blonde; Phil Atherton, a Romeo from Gleason Hill; Alan Chamberlain, strictly a brain ; Francis Dahill, Belfast's Harry James; Janice Huff, tomorrow's typical typist; Bill McCumiskey, just plain Bill ; Doug Herrick, quite a wit in a quiet way; Walt Kottwitz, (good things don't always come in small packages); pat Reddy, a Bombshell from Caneadea; and Joan Kranz, the author of this masterpiece. We have thoroughly enjoyed our years in high school and eagerly look forward to next year and our Washington trip. In soccer, our big contest of the season was with Rushford, undefeated County champs”, whom we tied 0 to 0. The rest of our games came out with disappointing results. However, there are some very rugged prospects, a fact which helped boast our morale. We think they will put up some stiff competition next year. The Varsity Bulldogs under the guidance of Coach Jack Baader (and with Jim Jelleson as captain) spent many demanding hours of practice, but came out at the bottom. Although we were badly upset, we still didn't lose faith. And we thought of the five Seventh-Eighth Grade team. Congratulations to these Cagers, who were undefeated. The Jayvees under Coach Gene” Palmer (and with Dave Jones as captain) fared a little better than the Varsity; they upset three opponents. We sincerely hope that these players (many on next year's Varsity Squad) will stage a comeback and walk away with several honors. Best wishes to the cheerleaders for the splendid job they did in upholding our morale during our darkest defeats. Here's also a note of appreciation to the managers for the wonderful work of taking care of the players. Our next and final sport of the season is America's favorite game — baseball. We hope to seek revenge on the other teams in the league this spring. Four Senior sports participants will be sadly missed by next year's teams: Jim Jelleson, Darrell Brown, Lewie Harrington and Elwin Fox.. These boys showed determination and a strong will to win during their years of sports activity. Congratulations for your spirit, fellows 1 Here's the best of everything to all 53-'51+ participants in athletics and a hearty thanks to our coaches and cheerleaders for their untiring efforts and assistance in our behalf.
