Although we were glad to leave the grades, we thought of our coming years in high school with hidden fears. We spent most of our time getting into extra-curricular activities, but we did have two parties, a hay ride and a skating party, during the first semester; and a party in the school cafeteria during the second semester. Our class advisor for this year was Mrs. Frances Parthoens. We entered our Sophomore year with Mrs. Vivian Cornett as advisor and things in general began looking up . We weren't very active socially, but we held one skating party and we joined in the Christmas party in the gym. After we had chosen our class rings during the last half of this year, we looked expectantly toward the fall when we would be able to wear them. When we arrived at school in the fall of '49, we were at last upperclassmen—Juniors—and our activities really started. Miss Mary McCarthy and Dominic Curcio were chosen our class advisors and Lois Benjamin, our class president. Our rings came soon after school started and we were as proud as punch over them. In the fall we sold socks, with B.C.S. emblem on them, and Christmas wreaths. In March we had our Junior Play, Girl Shy. We had a lot of fun putting it on and everyone who saw it seemed to enjoy it. In May of this year we put on the Junior-Senior Banquet with the Seniors of 1950 as our guests. We had supper in the school cafeteria and later went to the Friendship theatre, where we saw Lost Boundaries. In August we had an eating booth at the fair in Ange1Ica. One evening we were all nearly drowned in a rain and wind storm, which almost blew down our tent. However, we had a great deal of fun in this venture and our rewards were numerous• We began our Senior year by electing Miss McCarthy and Mr. Curcio as class advisors and Clifford Chamberlain as class president. We started our money-making projects by selling candy, which was a carry-over from our Junior year. In November we had our Senior Play Half Past 1 Teen, which was a huge success. Shortly after this, we had a round and square dance with music by Martin's Mountaineers. This proved profitless, but everyone had a good time. After the Christmas holidays we found our class had dwindled to the sum of nine. On our Washington trip in April, we stayed in the Continental Hotel. Every- one was rather tired when we returned home, but the trip was greatly enjoyed by all. Later in the spring we were the guests of the Juniors at the Junior-Senior Banquet. We graduate on June 25, 1951, and so we leave our school years behind us. We have fully enjoyed our four years in high school and hope that the classes which follow us will enjoy their four years as much. r Lola Benjamin Choir 1234 Band 123 Cheerleader 1234 Student Council 1 3 Treas. 4 Class Treas. 2 4 Class Pres. 3 Operetta 234 Camera Club Pres. 4 Latin Club Pres. 3 Junior Play Senior Play Broadcast 3 Feature Editor 4 Belorea 3 Business Mgr. 4 Operetta 124 Choir 123 Band 1 Student Council 3 Latin Club 3 Junior Play Senior Play Richard Butler Broadcast 1234 Band 1 Choir 234 Basketball 234 Basketball Mgr. 1 Baseball 3 4 Student Council Pres. 4 Camera Club 4 Operetta 2 Model Airplane Club 3 4 Class Vice-Pres. 3 Junior Play Senior Play r r. t r e Clifford Chamberlain Choir 234 F. These involve selling candy, greeting cards, and stationary, as well as producing our major project, the Junior Play, Don’t Blame Me”. We are looking forward to the Junior- Senior Banquet and the Junior Prom in the spring. Even though we complain of the Latin tests, five weeks marks, and so many lessons, we have had an enjoyable year. Everyone certainly has had a swell time putting on the T.V. show for English III, going on skating parties, traipsing around the country on field trips, playing and cheering for the ball games, asserting ourselves as upperclassmen, and mostly for Just being together. r K L n Fourth Row - Albert D'Orazio, John Hasper, Helen Barber, Cassius Sralth, Wayne Hale, nilrd Row - Marie Unfus, Phyllis Abbey, Joyce DeRock, Bonnie Brun- dage, Barbara Smith, Nancy Young. There were several minor sports, such as ping-pong, badminton, and volleyball. The soccer eleven” played seven games in all, with five league games and two non-league contests with Fillmore. Belfast lost all seven. If we had had a soccer team composed of eleven players, all like Fran Thornton, things would have been different. Then came basketball with Belfast's having only two able-bodied boys who had participated in varsity basketball beforet Bill Enders (who dropped out of school before the season ended) and Fran Thorn- ton (the star of tfie season). Nevertheless, we had many a good game with Belfast's trying her best. We played excellent varsity games with Belmont and Canaseraga. These games were very exciting because the score was tied most of the time and when it wasn't, there were only a few points' difference. However, when the final bell rang and the dust cleared , Belfast had lost by a couple of points because we didn't have a strong enough substitute bench . The two teams played 13 games, winning two and losing eleven. Final scores for each player were as follows: Junior Varsity Sonny Smith 63 Lawrence Jones 27 Lyle Slack 62 Jim Cornett 15 Wayne Hale 51 Al D'Orazio 14 Ray Chapman 37 George Harris 6 Jim Jelleson 27 Jack Parker 4 Donny Jewell 1 Varsity Fran Thornton 139 Windy Lilly 29 Bill Enders 51 Lyle Slack 14 David Campbell 45 Howard Jennings 1 John Hasper 45 Jim Cornett 1 Dick Butler 40 Lawrence Jones 1 Sonny Smith 1 basketball season was over, Mr. Roberts held in basketball games among the high school classes. Since the Seniors didn't have enough players, Lyle Slack and Richton Brown were per- mitted to play with them. The Juniors were the winners. In March, Mr. Roberts took a group of boys to a county volley- ball tournament at Alfred-Almond Central School. These boys played several games until they were among the last four teams in the com- petition. It was not until then that Belfast was eliminated. Rush- ford won. Soon after, a shiny white card was observed on the gym's bulletin board. To most pupils, this meant one thing—a ping-pong tournament. Donny Jewell won this and Lewis Harrington was runner-up. These two boys and Coach made plans to go to Andover, April 27, for a tour- nament there. Last upon the sport's schedule was baseball, which the boys started the first days of spring. Coach Roberts and everyone else had hopes of a good season. Third Row - Albert D'Orazio, Lawrence Jones, David Campbell, Francis Thornton, Cassius Smith, Dean Schroeder.
