from A Freshmen Vlevvpolnt On the openlng day of school I was 111 the mldst of a mlllxng crowd of freshmen who, lrke me, were looklng for thelr homerooms I was bew1ldercd by the SILC and newness of the school In luvh school If seemed there were H11ll1Of1S of steps to chmp, dozens of cl rsscs dulx to attend, a multltude of strange teachers wlth wluch to become acquarnted, ceaseless clangmg of bells to suffer, many new subyects such as Latln and algebra to study frequent announcements oxer the 1'lkl1O and hordes of oxerbearlnfv snobbrsh upperclassmen, who consldered us just freshres , to surxne mg blunder, wh1ch the upperclassmen thought qulte humorous When the town Hre srren screeched, our sect1on xmmedlately qu1t work and frled out of the bu1ld1ng IH fire dr1ll order The prrde of the upperclassmen would not allow them to admlt thelr COHTLISIOI1, but I suspect that many of them thought the school was on fire, just as we d1d A contrast to thls excltement was the selectlon of homeroom officers The homeroom teachers appolnted the followxng homeroom charrmen for sect1on IA Robert Black, for IB Frankhn Amos, for IC Iohn Scott and for ID Iohn Monks No contrast to our blunderrng eprsode, howewer, and a source of Great excrtement was examrnatron week The examrnatrons came and went wlth more than one broken heart and many low marks The more pleasant thrngs w1ll prove of greater rnterest to you, I am sure Our varred HCIIVIIICS mcludrnv many mterestrnfr assemblles, a Freshman Recept1on, the Goldey spellmv contest, May Day celebratlon, deck tenn s tournament, Held ball, and soccer games, 1nterclass basketball xollex ball, and soft ball games, and a freshman Bellarlon , whrch gaxe us our first and only opportumty to express ourselxes and mlke ourselxcs known throughout the school prowrded recreatlon and a rest from trenuous work When we become sophomores, yunrors, and finally sen1ors, we w1ll be frrven a greater opportunlty to show our abrhty and prove our mem Meanwhxle, we look forward to next year, when we can haze the freshles 37 E L A D I O S .
