BEGGS DEM ONI TE 1977-78 VOICES NVe,re in the new school at last! It seemed as though we were never going to get here. But, what is this We hear? WVc believe it to bc . . . VOICES. Voices that are friendly and inspiring, voices that are enthusiastic, singing, and concerned are the voices We hear. These voices seem to be expressing our opinions about the faculty, the new school, the student body and the spirit ofthe school. Spend some time with us and let,s reminisce over the times these voices cheered the football team on to victory and a state runner-up title, Voices that led the many different organizations such as Band, FFA, FHA, and the Drama Club on to greater challenges, Voices of administrators that issued justice when We were looking for amnesty, Voices that nagged about homework we always meant to do. Then a voice bellowed Whois number Oneiw The team answered, aref, The Demon Machine was ready to be unleashed upon its foes. A cool Friday night, a crowd, a prayer, the whistle blows, a ball is kicked, and another fantastic season of football has begun for BHS. A very high-spirited 26-man Demon Machine is ready to roll into action for another victorious season. The Machine burned team after team, losing only to O.C. Millwood during their regular season of play. The Demon Machine was well on its way to a State Championship. Cold weather, flu, injurious football practices, and snow were common symptoms associated with State Playoff week this year. The fast-paced Demons faced the Watonga Eagles in the State Championship game. The weather was below freezing. The fans huddled into groups to form igloos of safety against the chill of the night as they watched the hard-fought game between the two rivals. Fate dealt VVatonga the upper hand. Fumbling, mis-snaps, and interceptions plagued the Demon offense. Watonga capitalized on these mistakes and rolled past the Demons to a final score of 20 to 0. 37 Have you noticed that the girls, legs look better this year? Burns and bruises were the looks of the basketball girls, legs last year. But things have changed since they have been practicing and playing on the new gym floor. It is made of rubber foam, which isnlt as slick as the wood floors, so it doesn't leave those burns. The girls were slightly delayed from their first few games because of football playoffs, but they came out with a third place trophy in the Berryhill Tournament. This tour- nament began the season of bas- ketball. The girls took magnificent wins right along with heartbreak- ing loses. But these loses did not make them give up hope. They put their best into each and every game and never quit. Thatis what made the first year of playing in the new gym so great. The team has a lot of talent and we've played some really good gamesf, This year the basketball team has something to be proud of. The new court and stadium is one ofthe best in the county. The highlight of last season's baseball team was the unexpectedly easy win of the Choctaw Tournament. Spring also means that the excitement oftrack meets is at hand. With a stable of fast athletes, Beggs always fields a good track team. Last spring, in fact, Beggs was only a nfootstepi' away from winning the State Track Championship. Guest speakers at each meeting have made this year's programs new and different. They try to involve each member in all of their many activities. Some of their regular activities this year included the chili supper at which they served a record of440 bowls of chili. The candy sales this year made about 8500. And the Tot and Teen Christmas Party this year was enjoyed by the F.H.A. members as well as the children. Among the other activities were Secret Sisters. All members drew the name of a secret sister and gave gifts and candy secretly. The highlight ofthe entire year is the State Rally. Fairs mean - Students getting out of school! Besides getting out of school we also Work with our sheep, hogs, and calves. It takes many cans of hair spray and hours of grooming to get our Q animals ready for competition. If this work is done, most of us will have ribbons or trophies to show for our work. FFA offers a variety of learning opportunities. We have a farmshop team which teaches welding and cutting. Training in land-judging and the care of farm animals provides skill-building experiences. Those things learned by younger students are sometimes surprising, while the older students know each step by heart. FHA offers a great deal of things to do. We are kept busy by selling candy and working at chili suppers. We also have ice cream socials, which are a very delicious way of earning points. Each point earned is a closer step to going to Oklahoma City. PLAYING WITH FIRE XIXAXLSL, val. algo QJXXWXOT BV 5B4lVX7'Qf 5 X' -jkcxde kwbwux X ,ig 5 C3,L..l5iJJV Zi QCLJLS? Cltyvxol XAJGLH1 QV? When in Rome do as the Romans dof, This saying proves to be true with the new school. Since we have a new school, we must have new classes and a different way of doing things. Psychology is one of the newest and most fascinating classes offered this year. Psychology is the study of human behavior. Believe it or Not,', psychology class is full. Psychology class explains why human beings grow from little acoms into complete nuts. We even have a new gym this year. No smoking is permitted in the gym. This way We can see the games without being surrounded by fogbanks of cigarette smoke. The walls at each end of the basketball court are padded which makes lots ofus feel right at home. They even have a rubber floor! As for a different way of doing things we now have a pop machine that is the pride of the lunchroom. Even though the pop costs 56 less than a complete meal, we still buy it, which is all right since Mom or Dad gave us the quarters to pay for a library fine. 71 Upper right: John Dodd and John Creason are practicing their skit for Drama and Debate. Why nottry Speech or Drama and Debate? We can learn to stand in front of a classroom of students and give a speech on how to pass a football, or we could join Drama and Debate to learn to express ourselves lucidly on a particular subject. Each of us enjoys doodling, but some of us get serious about drawing and take drafting where we draw blue prints of engines and house plans. In Home Ec., we learn everything from the basics of measuring sugar or sifting flour, to testing our sewing machines. Everyone has had Trig, Algebra I or II, Plane Geometry or some type of science. Each of us knows how it feels to go home with an arm load of books, including one type of math or science or maybe both. I can understand why we complain about homework. But we shouldn't complain, for each and every one learns something from homework. ,wwf ,,.,.-- fW 73 The noon bell rings and almost everyone races to the lunchroom to see what we're having for lunch. Hardly anyone goes downtown for lunch since we have a rule here at the new school that once you park your car in the morning you can't move it until the last bell rings in the afternoon. Even though we have all new equipment in the lunchroom this year, the line is usually long. Some of us enjoy sitting around and talking as we eat. But some of us just enjoy eating. We have a variety of different things for lunch. Some of us don't like any of it. Some of us like all ofit. Things best liked here at Beggs are hamburgers, chili beans, hot dogs and pig in a blanket. Things not so well liked are turkey pot pie, macaroni and cheese and hot chicken sandwiches. We also have a few unusual dishes here, like Mexically wrap up and Oklahoma spaghetti. Some people just hang around the cars, listening to radios, talking or joking around.
