(I1SS Pi n ADS 69 We, The Beemer High Annual Staff, have declared the 1982-83 school year the year in which all en- deavors were met with a positive attitude. Being in a tougher class “C this year, all teams and activities were already starting out in somewhat of a hole. The people in these activities, however, did not let it get them down but instead made up their mind that they would rise to this greater challenge and make a name for them and our school in class C . The volleyball team’s positive attitude brought yet another Logan Valley Conference championship tro- phy home as well as the district title. The team then enjoyed a couple of days down in Lincoln at the State tournament. The football team had yet another set- back, having to play 11-man for the first time. The team overcame this, however, and showed that we could play with almost anyone on the way to a seven and two season and some pretty fantastic statistics. The boys and girls basketball teams were both pre- pared for this season's challenge and both posted winning seasons. The girls' squad won the Logan Val- ley Conference tournament as did the boys’. The boys' team got off to a slow start, but won 15 straight to give them the top seed in the district tournament, an honor the girls a'so received The golf and track ♦es'-’s 'e S ' « e-y j ,avn ahi ea a had some c k'e- ea-’ meets canceled The goi team's positive a’vt jde placed them high in most of their meets, however, and only an off day at districts prevented them from going to state. The track team went to only one meet where the weather was nice the entire day. Both boys and girls put the weather to the side and at one time practiced in a foot of snow for a week. The boys won every meet except dis- tricts, in which they tied for first. The girls brought home quite a few medals themselves and qualified three for the state meet in Omaha. The boys sent eight people in seven events to run at Burke. The positive mental and physical attitudes of all athletes led BHS to an outstanding year. The sports were not the only positive part of Beemer High this year. The speech team won four overall titles including two conference and a district on their way to a fabulous fourth place finish at the State meet in Kearney. The One-Act play cast placed high at the conference contest and received a supe- rior at the district contest, narrowly being beat by an excellent Pender team for the state berth. The posi- tive attitude of all the drama students once again shown through. The music program also did some shining for BHS when it scored six l’ s at the dis- trict music contest at Wayne. The entire 1982-83 school year was a hard fought challenge for all the students at BHS and one in which we feel the answer to all problems was ... We had our good times and we had our bad, but though our team effort and determination we succeeded in making it a memorable year. The season took on a special meaning when we managed to achieve a second place trophy in our own Beemer Invitational Tournament losing only to Wisner in three sets. One week later we avenged our loss by beating the Lady Gators in two straight sets. Debuting at our final round ac- tion with Snyder in the Logan Val- ley Conference Tournament, The Boys from B.H.S. cheered us on to our ninth and final L.V.C. crown. Regular season play was ended with a win over West Point Central Catholic and a twenty-set winning streak. Winning our C-4 district and re- gional action advanced us to a state birth, where we disappoin- tedly lost to Sandy Creek. We hope that even as time goes by and the pages yellow the memories of this special year will linger on in your hearts and minds and the glances at these pictures will put a smile on your face. Starting on Monday secret admirers decorated lockers and windows were painted downtown. To start the week off right, the cheerleaders sponsored a Soc Hop. Teachers and students alike felt it was one of the best dances ever held. To keep the spirit flowing, Tuesday was mournful day which was followed by clash and punk rock day on Wednes- day. Slop day was held on Thursday. We also had a bon fire and snake dance Thursday evening. Friday was purple and white day. The band led the crowd to the pep rally downtown. In the evening Beemer was victo- rious over visiting Newcastle. The score was 35-7. At half- 1 time the royalty was announced. After the game a dance was held featuring Complete Sound of Norfolk. Brian our President 63 Un Soir en Paris Prom 1983 An Evening In Paris Nice smile Who's the guy, Julie? The 1983 Prom was a big success. The juniors worked diligently the whole week before prom putting decorations together, making it the perfect Paris setting. Everyone loved the dinner. We had fresh fruit, cheese, roast beef, baked potatoes, french cut green beans, bread and for dessert chocolate mousse. The prophecies were read by Sarah Wordekemper and the wills were read by Ken Mestl. The dance was fun and exciting. D H Flight was the band. Everyone seemed to like them, because on every song the floor was packed. All in all the prom was a big success. 64 Having fun girls? D H Flight “At the end of every accomplishment is a door to a new challenge Together for the last time! Friday the 13th of May was the senior class's final departure from BHS. The evening was a) exciting, b) traumatic, c) boring, d) all of the above. As we gathered in the second grade room on graduation night we were reminded of the past years and what we experienced. We were all brought closer together one last time forgetting our differences, re- membering only the best of times. Our memories of BHS will last a) forever, b) until our 10th year re- union, c) until tomorrow morning. Even though fun was had by all we know the best is yet to come. If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away.
