Improves Boys Basketball Wayne High where luck once again was not on our side having to play first seated Homer. Over all the season wasn't all that bad. Improvement was made and good times were shared. Those receiving honors were Robert Paulsen with All Conference first string and Dale Martin receiving honorable mention.

The Year of Spirit Improvement is what the boys 1980-81 basketball season was noted for with a new coach and playing class C ball the boys kept the ball rolling. Though ending the season with a 6-10 record there were many exciting games that had close 4th quarters losing only by a few points. Coach Dale Jack- son assisted by Larry Bausch stressed the importance of team- work. With eight returning let- termen and twenty other team members the boys progressed. Af- ter Christmas they had a winning streak for three weeks in a row. Conference tourney wasn't much to talk about. Having to play the first round game in Snyder's barn didn't give the Bobcats much of a chance. Districts were hosted at

Bobkittens Complete Doing a complete 'about face' from last year, we completed the most successful season in the sport's history, here at BHS. Under the direction of second year coach, Ernest Heidt, we showed much improvement when this years' season rolled around. We split our first four games, then built a seven game winning streak which was then clipped with a loss against Decatur in the finals of the Logan Valley Conference tourna- ment. Then our high hopes came to an end with a loss to eventual champion Emerson Hubbard in the district tournament. Much of our team's success can be credited to, of course the out- standing quality of players, but also to the positive attitudes and teamwork that was shown on the court. With this added little extra, we were able to reverse last year's final outcome of 3-12 to our 1981 season record: an impressive 13-4, along with Logan Valley Confer- ence runner-up honors. We feel that this year was a very successful and fun season, which will always be remembered. Not only because of the numerous wins we accumulated, but also be- cause of the very important lesson we learned this year, that gave us such a fantastic season: That when things aren't going your way, and it always seems that you wind up on the short end of things, that's not the time to take matters into your hands, but it's the time to use good ole' 'team- work.'
