The people on these pages are spe- cial: they undertake the challenge to help us mold and shape our future. The memories of their efforts to help us through the troubles we en- counter will stay with us long after graduation. 1 5 BOARD OF EDUCATIGN 'Ji- gba ' -'Mr. Ghenom 'L 2 Dr. Saunders and the board members faced another year of budget-trimming as Beekmantown progressed into it's fifth year of split session. This year the board had high hopes for a new school to be built with funds appropriated by the federal and state governments. Unfortunately, the residents of Beekmantown defeated the proposal in a December vote. The Board still pressed on in its attempt to provide the students with the best possible chance to reach their academic goals. I-nik .V QQ TO THE CLASS OF '77 How realistic are we about what we want to become and about what it takes to reach our goal? The glamour of graduation with cap and gown, the congratulations of proud parents and friends, the pa- ties, and all that goes with completing school some- times blurs our vision of the road ahead. We some- times tend to think of the glory of being a college student and eventually a successful business execu- tive. Other times the vision is one of owning a new car and stylish clothes thanks to the great job we will secure. Hope and dreams are an essential part of life. Engage in them both-but mix them well with REALISM. To become a master plumer one first has to run many errands for the boss and do all kinds of unpleasant tasks. Long hours of study and work are required of successful business people, secretaries, nurses, and all responsible, well-paid workers. Those who are pre- pared to face the tasks ahead with realism, as well as with dreams, will reach the goal. You, the Class of 1977, have the world before you. Make your mark by hard work and determination and the idealistic picture in your mind will become actual. -Dr. Saunders Oi l 1- 3- ,,r,,,Wkf. ..Y.,,. .,.. The team, in fact, has won ten championships in the past twelve years under the coaching of Mrs. Santamore. This year's team made a fine showing, but was eliminat- ed in the semi-finals of sectional play. There were many outstanding players on this team. Among them were Sophomore Donna Gallagher, and Juniors, Judy Darrah, Lisa Brown, and Wendy Nichols. Also, seniors Jill Woodley, Sue Criss, Katie Duquette, Darlene Lyon, Diane Walker, Lori Dutcher, Stacey Leege, Debbie Brown, and Goalie Kathy Bordeau. W w + I GiRL's BASKETBALL Girl's sports have been increasing in popularity. This year was no excep tion. Crowds gathered to watch the varsity girls, coached by Mrs. Denny exhibit fine basketball techniques which placed them high in the league. Graduating Seniors are Sue Criss, Mary Dyer, Katie Duquette, Lori Dutcher, and Stacey Leege. We now look to their successors, a very strong J.V. team, to keep up the good workg The J.V. girls, coached by Miss Goldsmith also had a fine seasori with a high record in C.V.A.C. competition. For the third year in a row, the Beekmantown varsity finished at the top of the CVL football standings. But for the second year in a row, the Eagles had to share the top spot, this time with Plattsburgh High School, a team Beekmantown defeated in the season opener. Again it was St. John's that spoiled Eagle hopes of an undefeated season. After last year's heart stopping one point loss to the Irish, Beekmantown came up short again in a game that was a virtual replay of the 1975 contest. But just as they had done in 1975, the Eagles picked themselves up from their defeat, won the remainder of their games, and managed another share of the CVL crown. One of the pleasant surprises of the 1976 season was the performance of sophomore quarterback Jeff Snyder, who wasted no time filling the shoes of departed All- Star Peter Proctor. Snyder proved one of the finest performers in the league and, matched with team mates Jeff Sherman, Jim Coupal, and Rodney Gregoire, provided the Eagles with the most productive offense in the CVL. Coupled with the league's stingiest de- fense, the Eagles were tough opposition for everyone they played. ABOVE: Offensive line waits for snap from Eric Barnes. J.V.'S PROVIDE HOPE FOR THE FUTURE The junior varsity posted a 12-5 record for the 1977 season, fin- ishing in second place. Led by Coach Letourneau and outstand- ing players Brian Foster, Greg Caron and George Dyer, the team was one of the most determined in the league. Scott Wilfore led the team in both rebounding and scoring. This year was no exception. Fine performances by all the bowlers moved the Eagles into second place by the end of the season. ln sectional play, in the boy's competition, Beekmantown placed second. In the girls sectional competition, Beekmantown finished first and as this volume of the Crest headed for the publisher, the E-gals were headed for the state competition in Syracuse. SKATERS FINISH HIGH IN SECOND SEASON Coachediby Mr. Moschelle and paced by scoring leader AI Fessette, the EagIe's ice hockey team skated it's way to a strong C.V.A.C. finish. ln a sport which requires top individual talent as well as good team play, the Beekmantown boys held their own. ESJGGHVHGHGQS Tj Q Halfeday sessions and the earlier hours have had quite a bad effect on the activity program in Beekmantown. Many clubs have disappeared. But a suprisingly large number of students still finds time to participate in those activities that remain squeezed into a very tight schedule. Band, Chorus, Student Council, F.H.A. and Yearbook remain and continue to provide students the opportunity to plan and participate in activities outside the normal school day. 5 Q ' Z D C O I ff' I- Z LIJ Q . D P , N 7 8 Students at Beekmantown deserve their own repre- sentation and their own government. This is the pur- pose of Student Council. Under the leadership of Eric Barnes and Bruce Carlin, Student Council was very active this year. Activities included the annual magazine drive, the planning and execution of a very successful and memorable homecoming weekend, numerous dances and the planning of winter weekend. Providing activities for the student body is not the only job of Student Council. By raising money through these activities the Council is able to grant money to many of the athletic chapters and student organiza- tions of Beekmantown Central. Officers and repre- sentatives of the council are shown on these pages. Qi Stacey y SENIOR BAND 'fm Beekmantown's band may be small in size. but its members are loyal and hard working. The long hours of lessons and practice make band a demanding ac- tivity. But for those who participate, the rewards are many: learning a new language and a new skill that can be used for pleasure and perhaps profit, in many ways and places, for years to come. But while in school, Beekmantown's musicians provide many ser- vices to the other students and faculty. At football games, they are as important as cheerleaders in sparking school spirit in the crowds. At Christmas- time, their concerts of holiday music are enjoyed by students, teachers and parents alike. At graduation. their marches and songs add to the important mood of the ceremonies. It would be hard to imagine a high school without a band, and in 1977, Beekmantown is fortunate to have one as good as this. Singing at school assemblies, many local churches, and carol- ing at the Pyramid Mall among the hustle and bustle of the Christmas shoppers are just a few of the activities that highlighted their year. Hopkins ogg' STAGE: X-I THE YEAR BOGK STAFF The staff of the 1977 yearbook club was the largest and most en- thusiastic in many years. A dedi- cated sales and advertising staff sold over 800 yearbooks and col- lected almost 500 dollars in ad- vertising. Six more pages were added to the book for more cov- erage of student activities and two more pages of full color pho- tos were also added. The entire book from cover to cover was planned, written and designed by the yearbook staff. Senior por- traits and much of the photogra- phy are by the Varden Studios, Albany, N.Y. Mike Landry was the main student photographer and shot all the pictures of the senior play and winter weekend. This year's editor was Susan Lucky Mr. Sherman is faculty advisor.
