stone wall defense r highlights iv. season Beekmantown 's 1.981 junior varsity football team had a remarkable 6':1:1 season. Only one player returned from the previous, unde- feated 1 IL team and Mr. Amorelli the head coach, felt that the new LIL team started out as the most inexperienced team in the conference. The most outstanding characteristic of this team was its defense. In their game against Plattsburgh High, the I. V. 's were picked to lose by three touchdowns. In spite of this, the tough Beekman- town defense throttled Plattsburgh 's offense as the teams battled to a scoreless tie. Among the many fine players that made up the 1 IL team were two outstanding freshmen, running back, lason Covey and wingback, Dwayne Gel- wicks. Gelwicks was the team 's leading scorer and was also exceptional on defense. Mr. Williams and Mr. Haley assisted Mr. llmorelli in coaching the 1981 team. Upposing teams man- aged only two touchdowns all year against the Eagles who gave up fewer points than any team in Beekmantown history. ltow 1: Phil Avanzato, lim lolicoeur, Tro y Gelwicks, Chance Rambin, Scott llubin, Ste ve Wood Albert Brinson, Richard Recore, left Barkley.
