Glasgow, high school principal of Beekmantown Central School, who has shown a personal interest in each of us, assisted us with admirable patience, inspired us with his confidence and, in every way, enhanced our chances for success, we, the Class of 1960, dedicate this second edition of The Crest. Our principal, Mr. Glasgow, was born in- Omaha, Nebraska. He attended schools in Minnesota and Nebraska and received his high school diploma from Assumption Academy in Chadron, Nebraska. Desiring further education, he attended Nebraska State University Teachers College at Chadron, where he received the degree of Bachelor of Science. Mr. Glasgow began his teaching career at a rural school in Andrews, Nebraska. Following that, he was employed as a business teacher and coach at Uehling, Nebraska, and later taught in the same capacity at Dahlgren, Illinois. In 1945, he moved to Dannemora, New York where he accepted a teaching post in the commercial department. Mr. Glasgow obtained his Master of Education degree at Syracuse University, and later did further graduate work at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. In 1951, Mr. Glasgow became the supervising principal at Dannemora, New York, a post which he held until 1957, when he came to Beekmantown as high school principal. x F- 'f MR. John LaPlante is shown here re- ceiving a plaque from Mr. Ryan in recognition of his important contribution to the tradition of our school. The crest will be used as the emblem on class rings, yearbooks, and all other arti- cles representing B.C. S. Chunks As we, the present seniors, look back over our high school days, one of our out- standing memories will be that of having known Mrs. Helen Lefeve and Mr. Robert Dailey. Under their guidance and leader- ship, we learned to work together and to respect each other's abilities and opinions. As our class advisors for the past two years, Mrs. Lefeve and Mr. Daily have sacrificed much of their time to help us with our Junior Prom, Senior Snow Ball, Senior Play, and many other activities. Long after graduation we will look back on our high school years and remem- ber these two fine people who have done so much to influence us in our formative years We are all better people for having known you, Mrs. Lefeve and Mr. Dailey. The president is elected in the spring, for the following year. Other officers are elected in the fall. The successful monitor system in effect at Beel-cmantown Central School is one result of the forethought of our Student C ouncil. afiv al flv ar Svciefy NNTIONAL HONOR SOCSETY FIRST ROW: Patricia Glasgow, Jeanne Wattie. SECOND ROW: John Farewell, Sally Stevens, Elaine Babcock, Mrs. Johanna Wiener. In 1959, the Applegarth Chapter of the National Honor Society was organized at B.C.S. The name, Apple- garth, was chosen in view of the fact that the land on which our school stands was formerly known as the Apple- garth estate. At that time it was owned by the late John Rea, who was an influential and respected resident of Beekmantown. In March of 1959, under the sponsorship of the P.T.A. , the first induction ceremony of the National Honor Society was held. Three juniors, John Farewell, Patricia Glasgow, and Sally Stevens were chosen as Charter members. Now that the membership of the society has grown, the members are more fully able to realize their goal of stimulating scholarship, leadership, character and service in the students of Beekmantown. To further enthusiasm for scholarship, the Society has begun a monthly seminar at which various speakers relate the interesting facets of various professions. It has also presented awards to outstanding students in various fields of achievement. In keeping with the ideal of service to the school, members of the Society have dis- played educational material on certain of the school's bulletin boards. It is the hope of the members of the National Honor Society that they may continue to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership and to encourage the develop- ment of character in pupils of Beekmantown Central School. BEEKNMNTOWN CENTRAL SCHOOL BASEBALL 1959 This was the first year that Beekmantown Central School's baseball team played in league competitiong it was entered in the Class A league and played against Mount Assumption Institute, Plattsburgh High School, St. John's Academy, Our Lady of Victory Academy, and, in non-league competition, against Keeseville Central School and St. Mary's of Champlain The team compiled an over-all five won and five lost record - quite an impressive record for the first year of competition. No team in the league beat the Eagles twiceg they were defeated once by each of their opponents and, in turn, defeated each of their opponents once. With the exception of Allan Parker, all members of the '59 squad will be returning for the 1960 season, considering this, and the fact that there are many young members on the squad who show great promise, the 1960 team should be an excellent one. The 1959 B.C.S. baseball team was voted the outstanding Beekmantown Central School team of the year and was art awarded the John Donah trophy for this distinction. The John Donah trophy was donated to our school by Mr. John Donah to be awarded to the outstanding Beekmantown Central School team each year. +-'SW 3?
