Its halls have resounded with the sound of our steps. Its classrooms have heard the drone of our voices. Achievement, Initiative, Cooperation—all have mingled during 1950 to help us reach our ultimate goal—THE BEST AT BEECHWOOD Stctivities for StU We participated, 340 strong. Yes, there were activities for everyone, starting with football and coming right down to the senior play. The in- dividual classes, working through their class officers, had plenty to do. Radio presentations served to sharpen one's anticipation for the Speech Contest. The Beechwood citizen of today is the American citizen of tomorrow. On the lighter side, we remember many pleasant moments. Jim, senior class president and valedictorian, ruled at our prom of ‘49. Barbara, a Cin- derella in white, reigned over the prom honoring the class of '50. Cheerleaders —graceful and full of pep—carried on the Beechwood tradition. The every- day routine was fun—memories that will remain undimmed. as well as WRefresh ing Yes, Bob, we made it. From now on The 32 are not physically, but indeed spirit- ually, a part of Beechwood. Our school days here are done, but the friendships we have formed will last a lifetime. It is with mingled feelings of sadness and anticipation that we say goodbye to Beechwood and look for- ward to another day. — cu Aeon Dedication Take an up-swept hair do, a contagious laugh, and a heart of gold. Add nine parts of friendliness and three of sternness (when needed). Sprinkle well with the admiration of Seniors and Underclassmen alike, and mix thoroughly in a green Chevrolet frequently found bouncing up and ‘down Beechwood Road. Garnish with generous portions of sparkling personality and pleasing manners. Top with willingness to help and a winning smile. There you have Miss Virginia Bevarly, M.A., to whom we humbly and proudly dedicate the 1950 BEECHWOOD. Board oft EKducation W. R. ' oe a } el Sy | z | x Ri, ! : a ? w r Sep -s a na Hw CG nid + a, ae ger Hoopsters The Tigers looked forward with high hopes to the '49-'50 basketball season. There were many returning lettermen when Coach McNabb started training. All year long we were a hot and cold ball club. The team showed power in run- ning up big scores all year. Even the games we lost showed small margins. Al- though our won and lost record was 9 and 5, we still managed to chalk-up more points than our opponents. We enjoyed a trip to Lexington during the year. After losing to Lafayette, the state champs, on Friday night, we came through with an overtime victory against University High on Saturday night. Our tournament hopes were cut short by the close defeat rendered us by the Dixie Colonels. The Varsity was composed, with one exception, of Seniors. The Tigers were paced by Wilshire who threw in 315 points during the season. Several other regulars were McClure, Martin, Requardt, Wade, Dieter, McNabb, and Boudrie. Allen Smith, the only Junior on the Var- sity, was chosen captain for the coming season, Musie Department Every Tuesday and Thursday at activ- the contest under the direction of ''Maes- ity period we found the band preparing tro's mighty baton.'' The contest number was ‘Alpine Holiday.'' Eddie McNabb, for the winter and spring concerts and Ray McClure, Janis Wright, Bob Mer- gard, Jane Ann Klopp, Allen Brodt, and Virgil Vance represented Beechwood in the NKEA band. Ray McClure, with Jack Oldham as alternate, was selected for All State Band. The Girls Glee Club, meeting every. Monday, sang ''Shepherds' Tune ' for the contest. The Mixed Chorus, meeting every Wednesday, worked up ''Laudemus Te’' for their contest number. Pat Garner, Barbara Bennett, Betty Lou Groneman, Gerry Lange, Susan Druley, Joan Liston, Sue Hauer, Carol Fries, Delma Lear, Bon- nie Rowlette, Margy Riggs, Campbell, Star Jordre, Jack Oldham, Noel Markwell, John Morlidge, Jim Wade, Dick Dieter, and Roger Requardt were selected to sing in NKEA chorus.
