This year, Russ Reynolds charges racked-up 299 points to shatter all previous offen- sive records. Also, they had only six points scored against them for the second best de- fensive record inthe state, For the first time in our history, Beechens football games were hrozidctist, due to tha- inirnense inte-rest shown by the fans throughout the Flint area. BHSHETBHH After losing only two seniors, Gerald Pigeon and DonKolebar, from last year's squad, Coach Harris Borr looked optimistically forward to the 1950 campaign. Returning from last year's squad were guards Earl Pigeon, Duane Brown, Bob Towns, and Chet Hopkins. At forward were Bill Barnum, Nick Manych, KenPoma and center Homer McMurtry. Those who were brought up from the reserve squad include Bill Daniels, Ralph Cross, Buff Mundale, and Don Rhoades. Although failing by a half game to win the county championship, they posted the best record in the history of the school, winning eleven out of fourteen regular season games. Two of these losses were by two points or less. The team won a beautiful trophy for the school by adding the district tourna- ments to their laurels. This year's squad had an average of 50 points per game and had two boys, Homer McMurtry, with 216, and Nick Manych, 209, who scored over two hundred points. Graduating from this year's squad will be Bil1Barnum, Bob Towns, Ken Poma, and Duane Brown. This still leaves next year's team filled with veterans, who should add a few more laurels to the schoo1's annals. 55 TBHCH FIRST RCW: Don Fihoades, Fiollxe Hughes, Ken F'razier,Cl1ff Jensen, Lowell Sweet, Ben Henderson, Dale Bozunq. THIRD ROW: Garth Wardrup, Bruce Popovits, Ed Barnes, Bill Daniels, Jack Clary, John Flanaqin, Bob Bair. Under Coach Harris Borr's careful direction, Beecher's track team has grown from its infancy intoa fairly good squad, although many improvements must be made before Beecher can enter the county limelight. With seventeen returning lettermen, who will be seeking to better their previous performances, the l95O track season looks very promising. Those who will graduate from this year's squad are Ken Frazier, Cliff Jensen, Ben Henderson, and .Toe Hooper. BHSEBHLL Russ Reynold's crew is looking forward to the 1950 campaign with great enthusi- asm. On paper, it looks like it might be one of the finest teams Beecher has had since '45 when they won the conference title. There are 10 letter men returning this year to boost R. R's title hopes, these being outfielders Pete Princing, Clair Ward, Nick Manych, Homer McMurty. lnfielders returning are Duane Brown, Chet Hopkins, Ken Poma, Roy Pierce, Bill Barnum and Pitcher Gene Goode. During last summer, this combination added a few laurels to their record, as they won the city Class D Championship and went to the finals of the city's Amer- ican Legion Tournament only to be knocked out by the future State Champs.
