Cougar Football di e2 Jr!! gig-W3 UI 5+ ,rf Going into the league games the Cougars had gained much experience and felt that they were as prepared as they could be for the first game with Brookhaven. The Cougars trampled the Bearcats with a 28-8 score. In the second game against Whetstone, the Cougars rolled up 43 points to maul the Braves 43-13. The Cougars slid by the Linden Panthers 7-O, and a lot of work had to be done before the Cougars could go to the Puncher stadium. Playing in the game which was the City League North decider, the Cougars went in with con- fidence. lt was a very physical game, but the Cougars were shown at their best. Their win- ning score was 22-12. The East game was more of a fumble bowl, but again the Cougars were victorious. The Cougars went on to defeat Centennial C38-65 and their Northland rival Q19-145, giving Beechcroft their first undisputed championship and capping their season with an 8-2, 7-O record. The Reserve Football team also played superbly and won the city league division championship. The Cougars had now won their right to play at Franklin County Stadium on the funny grass, as Mr. Powell called it. The Cougars had expected to play Eastmoor but Eastmoor qualified for the State Playoffs. As a result, the Cougars played the Walnut Ridge Scots.
