C ASS lil TORY As the Class of 1955 nears graduation, we would like to look back on our four years in Beech Grove High School. We began our freshman year with 67 class members. During the course of the year, Lane Ward, Doris Davis, and Jim Brinegar joined the ranks of our class. We were very proud of our Freshman Basketball Team, which finished its regular season undefeated. However, we lost the final game of die Freshman County Tourney to Ben Davis at the Butler Fieldhouse. Our freshman cheerleaders were Beverly Messer, Gay Porter, Janice Emmert, Mary Hess, and Dorothy Smith. Our SophomoreClass was the first to organize at Beech Grove and we elected Charles Grubbs, chairman, and Marilyn Prather, vice-chairman. Under the sponsorship of Mr. McMasters, we had several class parties. Our girls' lnterclass Tourney Team, coached by Pat Davidson won the tourney by defeating the Sailors and Freshmen. In this year, we lost Loretta Collins, Nancy Gulley. Jim Brinegar, Charles Lynch, Charles Hopkins, Sherry Nugent, Charles Locke, Art Lady, Bob Purvis, James Royalty, and Jayne Calvert. We gained John Cravens, Mark Muncie, Madonna Pershing, and Joe Rice. Everyone cooperated to make our J unlor year a success. We had the highest magazine sales in the school's history--82285. Gordon Bailey was our top salesman with a total of over 8150. Carol Morgan, Thelma Hunter, Beverly Messer, and Rita Conway earned trophies for selling over S100 worth of magazines. We selected our class rings and elected officers, who were: Fred Boyles ------- ------- P resident George Fallowfield ---- ----- V ice-President Carol Morgan ------- ------- S ecretary David Dietz ------- -------- T reasurer Mary McMasters, Gordon Bailey - Sergeant-at-Arms We sponsored the lnterclass Tourney and our girls again won the championship. The boys' team finished a close second to the Seniors. Oar prom, The Mauna Kea, was held at the Riviera Club. and we belleve lt was the best ever . During this year, we lost Jim Fisher, Jewell Foltz, Bill McVay, Don Mosby, and Jane Short. New members of the class were Martha Burpo, Betty Frye. Ray J ones, J lm McMahon, Phyllis Pedigo, and Wayne Leonard. - Our Senior year promises to be an outstanding year at Beech Grove High School. Our class is extremely proud of our undefeated football team, composed largely of Seniors. At the beginning of the Senior year, we missed Glenda Bentle, Wilma Brown, Bob Ford, Ray J ones, Mark Muncie, and Lane ward. During me course of the year, we also lost Doris Davis, Wilma SC-billing. John Danahey, and Bill Baker. Chr only new member was Josephine Rosengarten, a transfer from Manual. Our Senior Officers were elected as follows: Fred Boyles - --------------- President George F allowfield - ------ ---- V ice-President Warner Wiley ------ ---------- S ecretary Jim Sare ---- ------------- T reasurer We began immediately to raise money and made a profit of S150 from the sale of pecans. This money is to be used for the production of our yearbook and for the Baccalaureate and Commence- ment programs, which we are already planning. Oar class will graduate 54 sailors, 13 less than were with us when we began our him school career. This has beam a history of the Class of 1955 of Beech Grove High School. We have tried to tell about the activities and high points of our high school life, but only by reading between the lines can you find the real story of the good times had, the good friends made, and the affection we hold for Beedx Grave High.
