JOURNALISM CLASS FOREWORD If in turning the pages of this book, you recall some of the happiest hours, the best loved scenes, and the valued friends of the past year; and if the pictures we have chosen will help to make your memories of your high school days more vivid throughout the passing years, then publishing this annual has been fulfilled. our purpose in 'DecLiMtitot The 1953 Badger Staff dedicates THE BADGER to Hollis Pruitt, who will remain in our memories much longer than he walked in our halls. Hollis, who died from a swimming accident during his sophomore year in Beebe High School, would have graduated with the class of 1954. Our classmate is gone, but his sunny smile and sweet disposition will long be remembered by everyone who knew him. BOBBIE BASS Secretary MR. ODLE Custodian In making my humble contribution to the Badger, a book of memories for 1952-1953, I wish to express my appreciation for the opportunity that I have had to serve you. The friendly spirit and hearty tion shown this year by all who have a interest in the welfare of our public combine to record a pleasant chapter in the history of our school.. Students, faculty , board members, and patrons have joined hands in making this a remarkable school year. As we set our sights on even a better public school that lies ahead, let us pledge ourselves anew to a code of ethics embracing the development of personal conduct characterized by honesty, trustworthiness, integrity, uprightness and a keen sense of fair play to our fellowman. Through the 20 years that have come and gone I have collected news items from papers concerning the various members of the 1953 graduating class. These articles are very informational as you can see from the following: The first article we come to tells us that LUKE SHORT was charged with bigamy by his first wife, ALICE FAYE THORNTON. Here it says that Beebe's Mayor. VICTOR HARVEY, met the train to welcome actress Marsh Gregory, alias ROBBYE WATSON, for a visit to her home town. In the gossip column we find that IDA JO POINDEXTER has been seen frequently in the company of the twice-divorced socialite, ARTHUR CONYERS. The prize for the Teacher of the year of 1970 was awarded to Miss RUBY BARNETT, Ph. D. Head of the Home Economics Department of UCLA. In the sport column the starring names are ROY JONES and BENNIE 8EVILLSwLo are basketball players at Texas A M. Upon reading further we find that the University of Arkansas won another game due to the clever strategy of their coach, SONNY SIMPSON. But that isn't all- -MAXINE BASTER and her Texas Trixters are playing the Arkansas Travelers in Beebe's new $ 1.000.000 gym. Dr. Short's hospital here in Beebe is entertaining its first set of triplets -- the proud parents being PATSY and BILL PIPKIN. Upon scanning the ads I discovered that CHARLES WARD'S used car lot sign has been changed. It now reads, Ward and Sons. Here it says that SONNY WATSON and MERWYN WILSON are playing the finals to see which will be champion in that all-American game .of Cat and Mouse. Two Evangelists, IRMA DAVIS and KATHERYN GARNER, returned to Arkansas for a visit from Africa where they have been doing mission work. Detectives CHARLES BUSICK and WELDON SMITH are on the case. In the Dorothy Du section we find Wonderful Reducing Diet. Thu diet has been tried and ap proved by KATHERINE WHITE who lost 50 pounds in 20 years. As I look through the society notes I read where Mrs. Don Staten, formerly DALE WASHBURN, has left her husband to continue her career as a nurse at the St. Vincent Infirmary m Little Rock. On the second page I was surprised to read that MARY SUE POWERS, a successful American Air- line Hostess, has retired to become the third wife of used car dealer CHARLES WARD.
