We dedicate our 1948 Badger to Mr. A. S. Ervin, to show our appreciation to him for his 17 years of invaluable service rendered most actively in our athletic department. Much of the success and prestige gained by our school is due to the efforts of Coach Erwin. His winning personality has endeared him in the hearts of all the students, and especially in the hearts of the boys with whom he has been more closely associated. Through these days of recollection How I hope and how I prey We still will be together Long after Graduation Day. CLASS PROPHECY OF 1947-48 It had core at last For weeks I had been anxiously awaiting the outcore of the Nation-wide contest sponsored by Oatsy-Doatsy, Inc. Iho rules for the contest had been rather difficult, but after a f«w hours I finally completed the statement which read I like Qatsy- Doatsy bubbly gur because—in twenty five words or more. I had won and now I was on ny way to the air-port to begin my tour over the United States. My tour began July 1 and vs to end September 1, 1958. At the air-port, I said good-by to my friends and stepped aboard the large plane. After settling back in my chair and making myself comfy, a very attractive young stewardess came down the aisle asking me to fasten the safty belts. Imagine my surprise when I d-scovered that the stewardess was none other than my old school mate, LOIA JEAN BI3 RY. I spoke to her and a friendly greeting care as my reply. She asked me if I had ever been in an air-plane before and since my answer was no, she took it up'-n hr.rself to show r.e around. In the cock—pit I was amazed to find another classmate, BURNETTE HARRISON. The three of us engaged in a fr'endlv conversation, and I found out that on a recent trip they had been honored with the presence of the famous re-search scientist . C. MOORE, who is known for and wide for splitting the atom into three halve . After making my way back to my chair, I turned the radio on and whose golden voice should I hear coring out to the world from Hawaii than Ukulele Jim better known as JB2T BA RENT INF.. This soothing music soon lulled me to sleep and I awoke to f«nd myself in Turkey-Trot,Iowa. Here in Iowa, the last football game -f the season was about to begin and the coach, the world famous oripinato- of the new play, the P formation, RAY GARNETT, sto-d at the end -f the field «talking t- his players. Did we say talking? After th' ga-e, I was 'nvited to a ball given in my h nor by the two most rreminent rerbers of the town, WAIT1?. SCP.OGCS and IUZA CAITBELI. Aboard the plane ar a'n, I tuned in the radio to hear the familiar strains of violin rmsJc coming fr-n The Hour of Torture. Their featured violinist for the week wos the celebrated HARRY WESTBROOK and his magic violin. Is thr t what they call magic? Again our plane landed, only this time in the town of New York City, New York. I had never heard of such a town before, but since I wasn t paying the bill I decided that I had ipht as well enloy myself. First, I attended a Broadway musical comedy in which the star was the one and onlv ALISE FITCE v th whom I had attended school. After a brief conversation with her I learned th't the producer of the play was none other than that notorious underworld character, CHAFXES MARION STIPE. Aft'-r the play I attended a lecture given by the prominent world lecturer on intellectual affare, COT DAUGHERTY Upon leaving the auditorium who should I chance to meet but my old friend BILLY WHITE and his charming wife, the former MARY RUTH QUATTL! BAUK. It seers that Bill was all enthused about his new businessf ■The manufacturing of artificial legs of disabled saw horses. I de- cided to stay over night in N. Y., so that I could visit a radio statio Se that next day I was at the station P H E E V E bright and early. First, there was a song by HELEN FERN DAVIS, who is second best only to Kate Smith, and then an excellent imitation of A1 Joleon by OTHA BENTON who is known as the A1 Jolson of his day. Ah well! Aboard the plane again and this time we were headed for St. Louis. After my arrival, I decided to fresh-up a bit in a spot known as Danny's Place . And there, inside, I found the most beautiful Bubble Dancer I had ever seen and she sear-ed vaguely familar.' Tee, she was the unforgetable DCRTKY BALLARD. Sitting at a near-by table quietly observing the dance by throwing tacks at the bobbles sat the owner DANIE3 McGIT TY. Such a change, too, for Dorthy! I said good-by to St. Louis and waved a fond farewell as my plane sailed through the blue. The next stop was at Tombstone , Texas. I was greeted at the air-port by the sheriff of Torbstone, and to my amazement found him to be none other than DIXON CWFN, on his famous horse the Blue Racer. Timidly I agreed to take a swig with Sheriff Owen in the famous saloon, House 01 Owen. Then I was lucky enough to catch the dance of Chu Chu La Rue, better known to you as IRIS GAULDIN. During her numb r h-wevr, a great coerotion arose from one of the tables and the notorious card-sha'k, JAMES PCr,I.E was carried off to ja' l by Sheriff Owens. Out in the streets once more I was approached by a group of very prim old maids who wanted me to sign a petition on Clean up The Town. I was surprised to see in the group former high school cuties: THELMA MARKHAM, FAYRENE SANDERS, MARY JO PP.UITT, BETTY CARTER, OZA MAE HA RIS, and BEILA GFEY. We decided not to spend the night in Tombstone, so we boarded the plane and sailed west. The motto, Go west young idiot go west, was ringing in my ears. So on to California, we went. Once in the fabulous city of Hollywood I decided to take a tour of the ain studio and in the farous B.B Studio I found the two great lovers of the sere BENT.’IE DIAL WILSON and MARTHA HEALEY, in the production of the forth- coming extravaganza This Could Happen To You . In another part of the studio I found a group of young men standing around a most att- ractive brunette, who ,1 might add,was perfectly beautiful, being photographed by the great artist, JIM?T FISH PR. Upon closer surveyance I found th-1 the medal was an old friend of mina, ROBBYE MILLER. Wa left B.B. Studies And soon found ourselves outside of the strdio B.Q.R. where another picture was being filned from a new best seller. The author 'f the book, MA Guy Named Joe, JIMMIY NELL PROCTOR was dis- cussing the stage ranagrent with the star, Taxina Price, the former MAXINE PRTCE. From Hollywood we journeyed n rthward t'- San Francisco. The trip had made us exceedingly tired and hungry so we stopped in at the new rosturar.t which is owned by the originator of the famous, and I might add (putting in a plug for Mr. Douglass ) delicious Douglass Dunks. I was totally flabbcr-gasted to find a large picture of JIMMY DOUGLAS w th the words'lOwner of the restaurant tacved across the botto of the picture. We were not able tr see ovr friend,Jinny, however, for he was in Washington trying to expla r to the Food Adrinstration the value of the hole in the do-nut. After re-freshing ourselves we stepred into the street and b ught a newspaper that seemed to tell something of u+most importance's they were going like hot-cakes • On the first page wns a large picture of my old friend CKUCK H'GGANJ who was on trial for his life for the murder of his laundry-man who, it seers, had made the horrible ri3ta' e of letting one of Chucks red shirts fade. Chuck's only statement was Can Jo© c me too ? We left Frisco, and flew to Reno Ncvada. Cnee there, we decided to visit one of the well-known divorce courts, and the o in the court, robed in black known as Solemn Face Hill sat the notable, AI-AN HILL, judge! It seems that he was presenting an old friend of mine,ELIZA- BETH McDANIELS,with her fourth divorce. While we were vaiti g t‘ talk with Elizabeth when should we meet but the no. 1 bachelor ‘n t vn, FRANK PRICE. He appeared t be waiting on someone, so we decided not to bother him. It seems that Frank and a certain girl he went to school with have been en 'aged for eleven years now. Why d rtt they break down and get rarricdl On the way V the air-port, after decidin to resume our travels, we could not resist stopping at 'he nTght-srot of the place known as Pelican's Roost . It was really a beautiful place. To my surprise I found RUBY MCPP.IS,::aZE!I BRUCE, JOANNA MARTIN, and LOUISE ROBINSON, who made four of the cutest Cigarette girls I have ever seen. It was rather difficult to ler.vCjbut finally we were bac1' on the plane once ore. This time wc were headed for Chicago, 111. A rivi g at the air- port, I found an old friend f mine,CHI Cl JOHNSON, who had returned from a trip. I found out that he was r.ow wner of Johnson Johnson products. He asked mr to stop by his office and lo k the establish- ment over and I agreed to do so. We took a taxi and soon arrived at the firm of J J. We were greeted in his office by what Chuck told me, was the most efficient bookkeeper he had ever had, PATSY GAMNILI. Even though it had been yoars since I had seen Patsy, she was as cute as ever, and still loved bookkeeping as uch as she did ten years ago bac’- at old B. H. S. From her, ve learned th t the s:T ont o partner of J J, Miss BILLI” D. FECH R was in her office and I was glad to wait for a chance to see her. After a brief chat with her I learned where her best friend could be found. We left the firm a d to k a taxi to a new resturant called Wiggers Place and we were greeted by the familiar srile of our old high-school friend, WILLO DEAN 3CR0GGS, we learned from her that GLENN CARTER is taking his meals there. Glen is foremam ''f a construction gang for Chief Engineer, BUIT' JEAN MORRIS, Bill's main object is to Prevent Bad Roads in Winter Weather.■ FYom Chicago, we decided to go by -ur old home state's capitol as a last stop before going home. We landed in Little Rock and just b: luck, burped into the Senior Class of Beebe H gh School on their way to Fair Park t spend Senior Day. They were chaperoned by my old friend,NADINE PUTT. After much confusion in the ufafamilar streets, we finally reached the office of the newspaper, The Arkansas Republic an and there behind a desk, sat MARTHA JONES who is known as Aunt Dump to all of her readers. She informed re that she was in charge of the Love Lorn Column. I wished her good luck and on my way out I chanced to meet another graduate of Beebe High back in 148,GOLDIE SWINDLE. Goldie was on her way in to see the editor of the paper about an advertisement. She W'-.s n w in charge of housing projects whose motto was We make no d ora or windows;you make them as you need 'en . The exc'tement of such a ' usy city was getting me d wn,so I decided t t the hotel and relax for a while9 Once in my room I turned n the radio just in time to hear my fav rite radio correr- tator, Greta Goper, whom I knew in my school avs as FRLA I EE H USE. It seems t’ey had just announced the winners «f the Olymrics, held in New York. I was ve y much elated to hear that GARTH MARTIN had won the title Yo Yo King, and the old speed deman of B. H. S.3 WAYNE UNDERWOOD had set a new record by running the half mile race la j one minute and twenty seconds . After a delightful n'ght's rest I took a bus back t ny here town of Beobe I had a really wonderful trip, but there was one thing I had found for sure. It really is a small world after all! y.J, CLASS WILL We, the Senior Claes f Beebe High School, of the city of Beebe, county of White, of the State of Arkansas being of sound mind and memory, do declare this writing to be our last will and testarent hereby revoking and making void all other testimonial writings here- tofore made by us.
