Parents Faculty Frnends and Fellow Classmates Tonrght nt as my pruvllege to welcome you to the seventh annual classnught program of Bedford Hugh School lt as a known fact that most of us do not apprecuate what we have untll we have to guve ut up For four years we have worked and played together here at Bedford for four years we have cheered our teams grumbled over long lessons rejoiced over short ones teased and pleased our teachers just as all the classes that came before have done and l suppose as all the classes comung after us wall do And now that the four years are over and we are ready to leave Bedford and although at IS mevltable that we be scattered each to pursue has own course the class of 53 wlll always be bound together nn splrnt But what lses ahead for us graduates? All of us here tonsght are on the threshold of a new lnfe and we again have to work ourselves up unto the rank In whnch we wnll be the happiest We are nothing but beginners nn the school of the world Just as a manufacturing plant turns out Its fmlshed products to be of use to the world so has thus school turned out nts products the graduating class of I953 We are the cutnzens of tomorrow the future leaders of thus country the ones who have to determnne between rlght and wrong What we have done and how we have done It durnng the past twelve years wall largely determine how we shall run our Infe nn the future Yes what Iles ahead for us graduates as a bug question and a question not easily answered Wnll the world be ready and wnllmg to be of and to us or wnll lt be ready to destroy our hopes and dreams? Minn Parents Faculty Fellow Classmates and Fraends We the class of 53 are deeply apprecIatIve and thankful for your guIdance and assIstance It IS ImpossIble to measure the value of your counsel In regard to our future as well as our present IVGS Today our class has two alternatIves eIther to dwell on our past Wlfh ITS pleasant memorIes of the enlIvenIng tImes we ve had together or to look to the future and what It may dIsclose Can we see the future as somethIng brIght allurIng us to promlses of securIty and hope? Or IS the future dIm and obscure offerlng only uncertaInty and despaIr9 Some would say We can not know what startlnng ISSUES the tomorrows wIll unfold so one must not be harassed wIth the thoughts of tomorrow merely take care of the problems of today That IS a poor phIlosophy because our future wIll be exactly what we make It A substantlal house must have a solId foundatIon therefore In order to have a future whIch IS promIsIng secure Wlfh a sense of accomplIshment at the age of retIrement a comple ment of educatIon and traInIng durIng youth IS essentIal LIkeWISe the decIsIons we make today mold the achIevements and faIlures of tomorrow lf through school we have learned to be OQQFGSSIVG relIable wIth InItIatIve and perspectIve we can be QUITE sure that these features wIll reappear throughout our lIves If our future IS what we make It then we must not always rely on others to do for us what we are capable of doIng for ourselves We dare not allow others to deslgn our lIfe and constantly dIrect our steps We must help ourselves' Grantmg that what we do today forms tomorrow we must not WOIT untIl tomorrow to do the tasks whIch need to be done w must do them now The world today IS In a deplorable state Ha bored wIthIn the hearts of men are fear and panIc WIll our lIves also be tortured In such manner? ls our future In the hands of fear and hatred so that we are helpless and unable to look forward to a lIfe of secur Ity9 If thIs IS true If our lIves are captIves of terror and panIc then our educatIon IS Incomplete Ignorance causes darkness darkness causes fear and uncer taInty but as w leave hIgh school to take our next step Into lIfe we are not fearful and fIlled wIth dread as a result of Ignorance but we step wIth a courage a knowledge and an experIence whIch wIIl enable us to overcome any barrIer whether It be personal natIonal or unIversal We shall not curse the world by lIvIng selfIsh and self centered lIves The way to help ourselves IS by helpIng others therefore our goal IS to bless the world by sharIng our DOSSCSSIODS our love and our prayers Then when we come to the close of our lIves we can look back over the past and see how the twelve years of school whIch we have just completed Influenced every year and how God blessed our lIves because we helped ourselves by helpIng others Thank you Leonora Stevenson I 1 1 1 , . . 1 1 ' 4- 1 . . . . . . , 1 , . 1 ' 1 11 f - 1 1 II , . 1 ' 1 1 1 1 I - ' 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 ' o , .. . . r . .
