T Valentme L Connor C., Gratz G Hayward S McFarland Bifdffggy W Alexander, T Gannon, R Oswald, Couch Early 3001117 u41g1fg11 Dear Errends We had a very successful season th1s year wrnnrng seven and loslng one Thrs was the same record we had last year We beat many strong teams Football practrce started on August 27 and before the season ended we had a seven game wrnnrng streak from 1950 We made rt erght stratght by trouncrng Dundee 33 to 7 On the frrst play from scrrmmage Gannon ra ed around end for 80 yards for Bedford s touch down Gannon maae a total of three touchdowns and Welch made the remarn 1ng two The wnole team played heads up football The next week we traveled to Anthony Wayne to meet the powerful Anthony Wayne Tornadoes We beat Anthony Wayne 19 to 0 Gannon scored one touchdown when Anthony Wayne krcked off to us and Gannon raced 56 yards for Bedfords frrst touchdown Gannon also raced 72 yards for a touchdown and Welch passed to Spotts for the other The next game was played wrth Maumee Valley Day School The score at the end of the game was 47 to 0 rn our favor The whole backfleld had a freld day agamst the Maumee defense Estes raced 85 yards on the openmg k1ck off for a touchdown Gannon raced 95 yards for a touchdown on an end run Alexander Hetzel Kubrtz and Spotts also scored touchdowns for Bedford The next week we traveled to Montpelrer Montpelrer rn every one s mrnd was a very good team The frrst half was scoreless but our team exploded rn the fmal half wmmng 20 to 0 It was Alexander s lme plungmg and Gannon s long runs that broke the game wlde open Gannon scored the three touchdowns on 22 26 and 22 yard sprrnts Bedford defense kept Montpeher s offense rn check the whole game The next game we marched out for a very convrncxng vrctory over Monroe Central by beatmg them 44 to 6 In thrs game Gannon really made a name for hxmself On tne ftrst play from scrrmmage Gannon raced 97 yards for a touchdown Later he raced from our own foot lme and went all the way for a touchdown The play covered 99 273 yards Spotts and Mortemore both scored two touchdowns aprece and Estes ran 53 yards for the other The next game we had to frght very hard for vtctory and we fmally beat Hrllsdale 6 to 0 Welch passed to Spotts for our lone touchdown The Homecomtng Kmg and Queen were Brll Alexander and Iackle Emery We lost the brg game of the year to a strong Romulus squad the next week Romulus scored on us the frrst play from scrrmmage and after that we were defeated Alexander played a very good game for us on defense The next week we closed the season on the rtght foot by beatrng Alrport l2 to 0 The f1fSl half was scoreless tyannon scored one touchdown on a 38 yard around end Gannon also raced 80 yards for the last touchdown McGovern made a tremen dous block and Gannon went all the way Thls game closed a very successful football season for us I O 1 . The Reserve football team also had a very successful season this year. They have won 4 and lost only one game. They started their football season with Mon- roe Reserves, who in previous years, the Varsity had played. They lost the game, 7 to O. After their defeat, they practiced very hard, and then, they played Tecumseh. They won this game 54 to O. In defeating Tecumseh, many of the players improved a great deal. The following week they played DeVilbiss Freshmen and beat them in a close game, i3 to 12. The next week was an open date for the Reserves. After their week off they played and defeated Monroe Central Reserves 41 to U. The following week, the Reserves finished their season by beating the Whitmer Reserves, 32 to 6. Ralph Abel, with his pivot shots, and Buddy Parmelee, with his long shots, had a great deal to do in making it a successful season. The Reserves defeated Monroe Central, Ida, Holland, Blisstield, Airport, Maurnee Valley Day, Romulus, and our own lunior High. The only teams that defeated the Reserves were Dundee and Ottawa Hills. The captain of the 1951 team was Bob Boehme. Bob was voted the most Valuable player ot the 1951 base- ball team atter pitching all of the games played. The 1951 track season proved to be the finest in Bedfords history. The scarlet-clad Mules, led by Arnold Strzeleclci, concluded an unde- feated season in dual and triangular meets with schools such as Monroe Reserves, Milan, Grosse Ile, Dundee, Blissfield, Airport, and Whitmer. The Mules also competed and fin- ished high in the River Rouge Relays, Hastings Relays, Albion Relays, and Mansfield Relays. We also finished second in the Regionals at Ann Arbor. The Regionals were featured by the l, 2, 3, finish in the 100 yard dash and the broad jump by Strzelecki, Albring, and Gannon. The above three, along with McGovern, placed first in the 880 relay.
