Mr. Conat was born on a farm in Burtchville Township, St. Clair County, Michigan. As a boy he attended Centennial Country School, so named be- cause it was built in l876, one hundred years after the founding of our nation. ln high school at Port Huron he often drove a horse and buggy or a Model T Ford the ten miles he had to go. He attended Michigan State Normal and the University of Michigan. When he came here in l922, there were two high school teachers, of which he was one, and three grade teachers. School was held in a church building and in the l. O. O. F. Hall, as the present building was not com- pleted until around Thanksgiving, when they moved in. As Superintendent, he taught five or six classes, and coached all sports. During the twelve years he acted as coach, he had many championship teams, among which was the basketball team of l927, which was defeated only in the regional meet. His teams won most of the trophies in our showcase. ln l927, his father was killed, and he ran the farm at Port Huron until l942, when he was forced to sell. On the farm among other things, he had a herd of registered Holsteins. Mr. Conat is a member of Knight Templar, Chapter, and Blue Lodges of the Masons, the Lambertville Civic Club, and the Temperance Rotary Club. Mr. and Mrs. Conat are members of the Eastern Stars, and of the Methodist Church of Lambertville. Ginny McPherson , Even Mr. Conat has Mrs. F. Parmelee a blonde secretary. An old hand at this gam
