He came to Bedford from Greencastle in l932 where he was serving as Superintendent, His disarming simplicity and frankness of manner has helped him to make friends both of the students and of the citizens of Bedford. He encourages everything fine while he deals with unpleasant situations with tact and diplomacy. Mr. Yount is always willing to help when called upon and because of this quality has attained an outstanding position in the civic life of , Bedford. I W. I. YOUNT H. H. The C-irl's Council is responsible for the upkeep of friendly relationships and proper understanding among the girls. Meeting every Thursday morning the girls discuss problems of discipline and ways of im- proving existing conditions. Miss Teare, dean of girls, gives of her time to sponsor this organization. Once a month the Council sponsors an all girls meeting. This is usually held the second Wednesday, Among those held this year wereg a program of miscellaneous numbers by alumni of the school, one which included representatives from each of eight classes in the school and a program welcoming the 9B's. They also sponsored a Big sister and Little sister movement in which each freshman was assigned to an upper classman to help acquaint her with the building. Those girls comprising the Council are: Marian White, Chairman, Nancy Fields, Secre- tary, Sara jane French, Betty l-lerley, Clara Armstrong, julia Cornelius, Betty Lee, Abbie Heitger, Helen Sellers, Tena Psaltis, Betty Black, and Maralou Bair. BOY SPONSORS The Boy Sponsors is a group of twelve boys, elected by the students at the beginning of the school year, to act as a governing body of the boys. If a person is found guilty of breaking these customs, he is assigned to the tardy room for a few nights. A Boys meeting is held on the first Monday of each month with the Sponsor's in charge. The English courses develop this to a 2 degree but the time is insufficient for a comprehensive research such as this club makes. 1 The year's programs include both book reviews and musical entertainment. The most E outstanding books of the year are reviewed by the members of the club and with them to give E a more definite understanding, biographical sketches of the author's are read. The entertain- E ment programs include both music and readings by talented students and post graduates. 1 The club membership is open to any student of the high school who wishes to belong. E Miss Durrenberger is the sponsor. The officers for this year are: Kitty Foutty, Presiclentg 1 Betty Erwin, Vice-Presidentg and Mary Griggs, Secretary-Treasurer. The program committee 1 includes Helen Quackenbush, Chairman, Carolyn Lindsay and Mary lean Railsback, COMMERCE CLUB The Commerce Club, ably sponsored by Miss Lillian Hunnicutt, tried a new form of entertainment for its members this year. Instead of the old cut and dried forms of pro- grams, they varied them with visits to prominent business houses and had business men come to the High School and talk to them, Among the latter one of the outstanding ones was Mr. Baugh, a Royal Typewriter salesman, who talked on Short Cuts on the Typewriter. He gave many points of interest in his talk and many that would help the oncoming typist a great deal. For entertainment the members enjoyed a Thanksgiving party and a skating party. This organization whose purpose is to help interest commercial students in their work, is made up of juniors, Seniors, and Post-Graduates. lt meets the third Thursday in every month and the dues are twenty-five cents a semester. Red 7, the winner will be awarded a prize for the trophy room, on Honor Day. Congratulations! RESERVES This year the response to the call for second team was answered, by a group of Vim and Vigor boys. Under the skill- ful supervision of Mr, Holmes, our boys went out to play each game with a deter- mination to wing and most of the time they did wing when they lost their dis- play of sportsmanship was of the best. Their endurance and practiced ability never wavered for one minute, and as the ball flew toward basket they were ready for either situation. The accuracy and speed with which these boys worked and won success is the one big consola- tion for varsity, who wishes these Re- serves future success as varsity players, in 1935-1936.
