BEDFORD COLLEaiO Bedford Free Public Library Bedford, Massachusetts 01730 Home of the Bedford Flag The Bedford Flag, commissioned to Cornet John Page in 1737 bv King George U of England, vas carried bv his son. Nathaniel, ivho fought with the Bedford Minutemen at the Battle of Concord Bridge, April 19, 1775 FEt2Da We, the class of 1 980, dedicate our yearbook to our class advisors, Mrs. Gullage and Mrs. Reynolds. Herself a graduate of Bedford High School, Mrs. Gullage has de- voted coutless hours to helping our class officers plan our activities and finances. Many of us will also remember her for her excellent typing classes. In particular, she spent many afternoons with our Prom Committee, meticulously arranging every detail of the dance. Mrs. Reynolds has also been a big help to our class, especially during our Sophomore year when Mrs. Gullage was on leave. She arranged our first phenomenally successful candy sale. This book, which could not have been produced without the cooperation of our class advisors, is dedicated to them, with thanks from us all. That may be, but in any case, as valedictorian, I am expected to make a brilliant, pro- found statement summarizing my high school years or speculat- ing about the future. However, I have never been adept at profun- dity. Therefore, I asked some seniors, What is the most important thing you ' re learned in school? One said, How to write things that sound good but don ' t mean anything. Another replied, How to sleep with your eyes open. These people understand that one essential thing to learn in high school is not to take oneself too seriously. A high school education is valuable in developing and cultivating a sense of humor. In fact some of the funniest people I know have gone to high school. Nevertheless, the four years at Bedford High have been productive as well as entertaining. Some people hove asked, Is there life after high school? There is but, OS I am repeatedly told, These are the best years of your life. Bedford High School has proved worthy of this saying in both social and intellectual respects. Its academic program pre- pares one for college and a sense of humor prepares one for the diverse demands of life. I hope the students to come will take advantage of the high school ' s many opportunities. It is important to receive the best and broadest education possible. After all, as some have said, Education is what ' s left over after you ' re forgot- ten all the subject matter. 54 ' i mm NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Sleeping on the job, Sondy? Stephens, Sr. The pages of this yearbook offer me a most pleasant opportunity to give my greetings to those students whose experiences and activities are portrayed herein. The seniors who leave us this year have earned our best wishes for the greatest of success in school and in work. We will miss them. We will use the photo- graphs and reports in this Year- book to recall our association with them. To those students who will re- main in the school for another year or more, we give our en- couragement that they, too, may attain the high levels of aca- demic success, athletic prowess, musical skill, and artistic and dramatic achievement which previous Bedford High School classes have maintained. And, most important of all, we say that we as teachers and adminis- trators welcome the opportunity to help each student reach his or her goals in high school. A D M I N I S T R A T I O N J PRINCIPAL Thomas J. Duggan The past four years have been years which each of you will always remember. My hope is that we in the high school have been able to contribute, in a positive way, to your future plans and that the memories you have of this high school will be, indeed, ones of happi- ness and of worthwile experi- ences. I hope that the decisions that you made during your four years here will have a lasting effect on your future. Each of you must now decide a direc- tion to take; and whatever de- cision you make, 1 wish you success. On behalf of all of us at Bed- ford High School, I would like to congratulate you and wish you the best! Thomas J.
