Although the 1973 football season was plagued with injuries, the determination, desire, and character of the team re- mained strong. Led by tri-captains Mike Elias, Doug Blake, and Steve Emerson the Buc ' s finished with a respectable five win and four loss record. Mike Elias, Bill Pate, and Steve Emerson were named to the Dual County League All- Star Team. Special recognition should be given to Coach Petrillo, Coach Odams, and Coach Sabourin. They have estab- lished a winning tradition at Bedford High and it ap- pears that the tradition is here to stay. 65 SENIORS Row . The American Field Service is an international organiza- tion which supports a student exchange program. Student and adult groups in Bedford raise funds individually and together to bring students from other countries and areas of the United States, to Bedford. This year Marco Tulio Alvarez from Guatemala is with us for the ten-months of the school year. When we have to say goodbye in June, we will only have to wait one month to be visited by forty- three exchange students for a four-day bus stop . Fund raising events include submarine sandwiches for Bedford Day, popcorn for football games, food for bake sales, the spaghetti supper before town meetings. Social Activities this year have included a halloween party, square dance and bowling party. TARS Row I: Linda Chase, Joyce Cooper, Patty Keohan, Janet Mitchell. This was the year Santa Clause asked, What does BHS want most for Christmas? and the answer came back, Our own T.V. station! About 50 students showed initial interest, but it proved very hard to get started: the station was only one set with a video-tape; the better of the school ' s two cameras was out for months undergoing repairs; four of the first sev- en shooting days were cancelled by snow and other surprises; no student felt up to writing the scripts. The first broadcast included slick sports analysis by Phil Maglione, and a view of the meteor Kahoutek by Jon Hurd. Steve Graeter ' s What ' s my Lie? panel with an inaudible audio, and, an improvisation by Gail Collins, Martha King, Chris Murphy and Marc Theobald. The survival of the fledgling next seemed to depend mainly on the A-V crew, led by Jim Shea, as they set out to video-tape the school around them with an imaginative flair. Jamie Bryan, Sheila Corrigan, Meg Simpson, and others, also discovered the joys of doing zany commercials and other bits. By Spring it seemed clear the station would continue to offer something for everyone: a chance to create or per- form or to do technical work largely at one ' s own whim and convenience, and then see one ' s work as o-hers see it! 112 PEP CLUB Row ; Ethel Sullivan, Mary Maskalenko, Jane Norton, Suzanne Reidy, Shelly Haid. FACULTY To The Class of 1974 As each year passes, those of us who watch graduating classes in America are becoming more convinced that the future will be well directed, productive, and replete with necessary solutions to the complexities of the times. In our times very few individuals enjoy the opportunity to affect per- sonally the future; however, individuals working together in their expression of community, local and national concerns are in a posi- tion to influence the destiny of our nation. Your school experiences have provided you with the skills to con- tribute singly as well as to work cooperativel y. Such individual ef- forts, in concert with the energies of others, represent an approach which I hope will be evident in your private and public lives. Best wishes for success and personal satisfaction. William F. Keough, Jr. Superintendent of Schools To The Class of 1974 Your career at Bedford High School is about to come to an end. This end, however, does not signify the end of your education but rather the begin- ning of perhaps the most difficult part of your education, the education of life. It is our hope that we have, over the past four years, helped to prepare you for this course, which all of you are required to take. On behalf of the Bedford High School Community 1 wish you all, success and happiness in your decisions for the future. Thomas |.
